I'm bummed because this one doesn't have a damn seizure-inducing light show AND even lets you fully turn off the display with a button press, then one tap on the screen. I'm getting a replacement sent out to verify if it's the "Scratch & Dent" unit I first bought or if the Sony unit is just not happy with 1st gen wiring. In the meantime, I'm back to researching CarPlay units and trying to gauge when all of the units announced at CES with wireless CarPlay will drop on the market.

 

Getting ready to replace the front and rear output seals on my T-case. I can find the torque specs for the stake nuts, but is there a special process? Do I torque them to a higher value than the torque spec (to set them) and then re-torque to spec? (Like the stake nut at the carrier bearing for example)

Started getting in to the nuts and bolts of my 100 dollar Warn Winch. Since we found out all the solenoids are good, and the only reason it wasn't working (for the guy that sold it to me) was that it was wired wrong... Figured it would be worth it to crack it open and clean up the motor.



Soaked the drive shaft in rust disolver.


Polished the contacts with come 800 sandpaper


Hosed everything down with electrical cleaner.


Overall, it was pretty quick and easy. I think it's looking pretty good.


I'll let it air out overnight before I slap it back together.

Your right it does look good.

That's the thing about buying a used wench. They are used so rarely by most owners that unless somebody damaged it in some way, likely they are basically new inside.

 

Got my CBI weld-it-yourself plate bumper mounted up last night, before the weather arrived. I am well pleased with how it turned out. Kit was great, pieces were very precise, so it fit together great. There is a winch under that pile of snow, still to be wired up, and will need to mount my fog and offroad lights. Next up NWTI wrap around rear bumper, replacing the stock one that some lady mangled up. She paid for virtually all of these improvements.

No, I just cleaned everything up and polished all the contacts etc with 800 grit sandpaper paper.

Once we got it wired correctly (when we we're testing it) it was running like a champ, even when it was dirty.

I felt like I was taken by a chance on this one, turning out like it may pay off. This allows me to get equipped with a winch (and do other things) a lot sooner than I would have if I had to spend the coin for a brand new winch.

 

Using the word wench instead of winch makes this hilarious.

 

I wondered if anybody would catch that.

My roommate got a 9K Ramsey winch for $100. Just needed a ton of cleaning and a controller. I've been trying to find another project winch like that but I'm limited to what fits in my ARB bumper.
