I know everyone on here was complaining about the toprac being taller than the cab rack but mine is opposite. My Cab rack is taller than my toprac. Does anyone else have this problem?

 

nope was one the other way, but your solution will be the same since i went to lower brackets which actually put me the the same boat you are in now. shim it up with spacers figure out the difference and make 4 spacers and bring your top rac to to match the cabrac.

 

Did you just use rubber spacers? Do you have pictures?

 

I had 1/2 inch difference to make up since the regular brackets were too high, so I went with the low profile brackets and ordered cut pieces of aluminum flat bar cut to length on metalsdepot.com

 

Drilled holes, rattle canned black paint.

You’ll need longer bolts too.

 

Thank you. Mine is almost a full inch difference. So I wonder if it would look weird with an inch bar under it. I self installed my Thule rails, so I put them out as far as I could to get them closest to the edge where it is a little stronger since my cap isn’t reinforced. I’m assuming that’s why mine is lower than most. Thanks for the tip though that might be the route I go.

 

It honestly doesn’t look much different than mine. I thought I had to come up at least 3/4 of an inch but I measured it twice and it ended up being only 1/2 inch. Can you show me a close up of the brackets they sent you?

They are definitely the taller ones. This picture will help show the difference better. I’ll have to get a better picture tomorrow.

 

Yeah they are! Idk you may be able to run shorter spacers on the cab rack but probably easier to space the top rac. Sucks this set up isn’t consistent, you know the truck and the Prinsu brackets are the same...it’s gotta be the canopy construction, or maybe there is variances to how it is mounted?

 

With a RTT mounted on a cabrack...is it possible to also have rotopax, shovels, etc? Any space up there?

 

For the top rack should the tracks on the shell be outside the reinforced roof section?

 

Maybe a shovel mounted on the side rails. You won't have room on the surface for anything other than the tent.

Which shell do you have? Leer? ARE? SungTop?

 

If anyone has a hard time punching out the weather strip. I reccomend a dremel if you have one, way easier in my opinion. I used the tape to mark my lines, drilled a hole, corrected if need be, then cleaned up the holes. Each hole took about 3 mins.

 

So you drilled a hole through the metal strip?

Punch takes no more than 10 seconds once you get the metal strip cut out with a dremel. 3 mins a hole seems tedious.

 

Yeah I did it all at once, no need to cut the strip out. I initially tried cutting the strip out and was having a hard time. The metal strip being located in the middle, still wasn't fully visible once I would cut the bottom T section.

 

I might of been doing something wrong, I read through most of the "how to" comments. But dremeling it out did offer more control of things lining up for me which was a nice bonus.

And 3 mins was being resonable Most of them did take about a 1-2 mins.

 

Seems more complicated that it should be, I just did one back in November and it was a breeze. And mind you, I hadn't installed one for at least 3+ years prior to that.

I should have taken pics when I did my buddies. Seems like the way you did it was tedious and unnecessary. As me and many others have said on here before, don't drill the holes. Glad it worked for you, but I'm not sure I understand what was so difficult about cutting slits into the metal strip with a dremel, finishing removal of the cut section with a sharp razor blade and then using a punch for the rack spacer hole.

 

Sorry but no. It is only 56 in from front bar to back bar that would be your whole tent. Nothing else could mount on it. I bought the top rack and Cabrack so I can put the tent on one and maxtrax on other. Shovel on side is only thing.
