there is no factory remote start option for the Tacoma. many dealers get aftermarket ones installed.
its quite possible they forgot to include the modified addendum with the deal, indicating that they had a remote start installed.
common installs are parking sonar, remote start, backup camera, leather, heated seats, and sunroofs.

toyota is phasing out the remote start kits as the vehicles will soon all offer SOS connect, and the ability to start the vehicle from your cell phone (which doesn't work all that well, sadly)
they've already started moving away from remote start kits on cars with keys, only offering on select vehicles with push button start.
a few of hte longer running models such as Tundra, highlander and 4Runner are exceptions, as the wiring has not changed and the kits still work and are available. and no, those do not work in the tacoma, as each kit is vehicle specific..

if you look up under the dash you may see a few extra wires here and there proving that some kit is installed, and not "some hidden feature" in the programming, which i assure you, it is not. as a tech for too many years and installing these factory kits since they became available, im confident you didnt stumble across some test mule truck that slipped through the cracks.

Pretty sure you are right, I will take a look sometime when I have time and see what I find. I just think it is interesting that there was no mention of it. They could have snowed me and tried to upsell me on it. Either way, nice surprise, but I wish it worked like my wifes pilot, and would keep running after I open the door and only deactivate if I tried to put it in gear. shutting off when the door opens is pretty worthless. I don't care that the starter is able to take the cycles, it makes no sense to have it shut off.

Maybe dealer A installed it before transferring the truck to dealer B who sold it to you.

everyone, and i mean EVERYONE complains about that with the OEM ones on other Toyota's.
some aftermarket ones can, but any that mimic the Toyota factory ones cant. its not as big of a deal as most make it out to be.
