Hahaha it's those stupid laser lights that started all this for me! I saw them and wanted them immediately so now I'm trying to find ways to get there without spending $2k.

I wonder if @Baja Designs would put just one laser chip in a XL80 for me....

Really tempted to bust out the NODs and try these. Then I realized anyone that ever came with me would have regular lights and would autogate my -14s into blind obsolescence.

So I had the idea of throwing some of those on my truck and putting a kill switch in for all aux lighting. Even the dash board. You could black out and turn those suckers on keep riding....then I realized I'd never use it either.

Yeah, unless you have some like minded goons and funding from a small govt agency, IR vehicle ops is pretty pointless and beyond reach.

    PVS-14s - $3500
    Helmet system: $1000
    IR lighting: ~$1000 minimum/vehicle

Some dude with a flashlight shutting down all your NODs: Priceless.

But if you "full send" it under blackout, and no one can see it, do the points still count?

I don't think Bros can conceptualize not being seen intentionally.

As of now, we are planning on offering upgrade options for Squadrons. It'll be more involved than a lens swap but customers can send the lights to BD and have the internals switched. I'll be posting more details on this as summer gets closer

    Thanks!

I had planned to just wait on the SAE to hit the market, but I have an aftermarket bumper on order and the vendor extended a deal on a set of the current squadron sports that I couldn’t pass up.

C4 fab? That Hybrid bumper looks pretty sweet.

The XL80 isn't available in Spot but the lens could always be changed with the above lens kit. When the XL80 initially came out, the LED had a large crosshatch that created a slight dark spot in the center intensity. It wasn't noticeable in the Wide Cornering and Driving/Combo pattern but was in Spot. We didn't recommend using the XL80 for distance since the XL Pro and XL Racer are available with better usable light.

The LED did see an update which significantly reduced the size of the crosshatch. It filled in the center intensity of the beam but it's not quite as intense as the XL Pro or XL Racer. Those lights are better for long-range distance.

It would be cool to have an XL80/XL Laser hybrid but it's NOT something we can do at this time. Not in the plans

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain that. Makes sense. So what would be the difference between the XL Racer and the Squadron Racer other than pure size and 20% dim-able? I know the projector for the XL is obviously larger but they both have listed the same lumen output. I'm assuming they have the same LED in each light so does the larger projector result in a significant longer distance?

This is the exact reason I love Baja Designs. Not many manufacturers take the time to have a detailed conversation with their customers. Thank you.

My guess is how the reflector manages the light. Lumen output may be the same, but the lux is probably what differs.

Yeah, thats why I was asking the real world difference. Lumen ratings can be very deceiving.
