Alternator still puts out like it was new. Didn't check the water pump to see how it was. Didn't matter I wanted it changed. I'm surprised the starter and key switch haven't worn out yet. I am in and out of it 5 to 8 times a day.

Didnt like how the 3rd gen drove. Traction control sucks balls, and it felt underpowered. And man, I'm coming from a tacoma too lol

Honestly, I don’t feel like I’m a full generation behind. Some tech here and there, some different sheet metal, and a new higher trim level engine. That doesn’t sum up all of the differences between Gen 2’s and Gen 3’s, but those are the differences I think about when I see new 2019’s on dealership lots. And I’ve test driven a 2018 SR Access Cab 4cyl 4X4. Liked it just fine. Actually felt pretty good to be behind the wheel of it. I could see myself being happy with one, and modding it throughout the years of my ownership. Wouldn’t have a problem with it in the least.

But, I’ve spent 11 years with my truck, and I remember that I bought it because I knew I wouldn’t see myself getting tempted by another “new” Tacoma as long as I had this one. If anything, one day I’ll just keep keeping my little regular cab and get a second vehicle. Probably a new Tundra when an actual redesign is introduced. Or, a 4Runner or a Sequoia. It doesn’t really matter.

If a person is fortunate enough to have a Tacoma of any year, and takes care of it, they’ve already won. And, if that person happens to have a regular cab they don’t get rid of it anyway. Haha.

My truck is almost identical to yours! Do you have a build thread? If not, what's done to it? That's the look I want to go for...Not trying to look like I'm trying to make the truck look bigger than it is, more of a rugged small truck look.

I bought my 07 in 2010 with 30k and have put another 140k on it since. I prefer the body lines of the second gen and have no problem making mods to it to achieve any functionality or farkles that I need/want. I suspect that it will be with me until one of us can't be repaired. When something goes out, I will look at it as an opportunity to either make an upgrade or get back to new.

Bought my 2015 after having a 2008. Intentionally skated under the wire not wanting to have to deal with that post release dealership troubleshooting. Test drove a 2018 leftover in inferno but the power was still not acceptable. The 2020 has not impressed me yet and I will likely wait until a 4th gen is settled in. Motor is likely to get less traditional and smaller at that point. So will need to get over that.

For now love my 2015. Installed like new 2018 TRD OR suspension and some 1/4 spacers for a mild lift. Also bought some 16” Pro wheels and BFG AT’s for Spring.

Hearing it will cost close to 60K for just the base. Crazy money when you can start getting into Raptors at that cost.

Youze Guys that finance, and then look to trade in and finance AGAIN are either nutz or you have money to burn! I don't care if the truck retains 70% of its value after 3 years, that means that it LOOSES 30% in depreciation! If you paid $40K that's $12K, or $4K per year!!! PLUS maintenance!!!

    20190212_153123.jpg
I PAID ~$27K cash for my '09 TRD Access Cab new in '09. MSRP at the time was ~$32K. Think about that for a moment. I paid an amount less than the amount that the "trade and finance" guys pay in depreciation after 7 years. They have nothing to show for their spending on getting the newest thing, and I have a truck.

I paid less than MSRP because I paid CASH. I've driven it ~90K miles, and I've put ~$2500 into it in maintenance - including tires, brakes, a battery and oil changes. I believe that I could easily sell it for $17K. That's $1K per year in depreciation and $250/year in maintenance! (the secret to low maintenance costs is to keep it AWAY from the dealer!) The picture above was taken about 5 minutes ago.

To be fair; Toyota has paid the dealer that I bought the truck from to replace the rear leaf springs and the frame.

I'll drive this thing till the wheels fall off, and I could not care less what the new body looks like. I like my truck. Older is better!

    [EDITED because I initially stated $3K/year in depreciation on a $40K truck. $12/3 = $4K not $3K - I'm a dope!]

I have not read this whole thread yet. Has this turned into a straight 2nd gen vs 3rd gen thread? I assume that is the bait we are supposed to take.
