The dealer I bought from said that the manual trans corolla has the push button start and smart key system. I didn’t actually look at one to confirm.

Plus, you can push a push button start once to turn the ignition on without cranking it (which would make the clutch cancel system still work as designed).

Smartkey on manual is one of the features I’m looking for in....I guess the next gen now. They added CarPlay which is something I was wanting. Let’s see the smartkey in m/t!

I really get tired of the TFL group. I like Andre and the young kid, but the other guys are hard to watch.

I don't buy it... I think they just don't want to develop it. It's good and bad though. I like that the engine doesn't turn off when I open the door with my aftermarket remote start system.

I'm not really understanding why MT knocks off the JBL option.

    Yea, this too..

    unrelated, but related story

Couple of years ago when I was looking for my Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 M/T in MG (hard to find). I went through my car broker and he went searching... one day he calls me and says he's got this person on the other line from Toyota and if he can conference me in. Why not? She introduces herself and confirms what I'm looking for and then says, it's rare that people want an M/T... So, your point is?, but I kept it professional and said, Yes, I know exactly what i'm looking for and that's what I want.
She then says, that I need to up my deposit to $1,000 (from $500) to really show that I'm serious... I asked her what's the difference? it's refundable anyway. Again, she went on about the M/T being rare and people "don't really get it". I stopped her from talking and told her that she has no clue WTF she's talking about, stop wasting my damn time and that I'd wait as long as it took if it meant not having to work with her ever.

So yea, they offer the M/T but they somehow make you feel like the red headed step child for wanting/having one.
No JBL (not a huuuuuuuge deal) but it seems it takes more effort not to include JBL for the M/T if the Auto gets it on Sport and OR trims... who knows

It’s because they want to sell you what they have or can easily get. Once I made it clear I would compromise on almost anything except manual, my local dealer was far less interested in working with me. I ended up driving 2 hours for not-my-first-color-choice. But I got a manual.

@3:57 he mentions the Clutch Cancel Switch being the reason the MT Tacoma does not have push button start.

Toyota could wire the button to function differently when clutch cancel is enabled. It could be push AND hold to start, accomplishing the same thing as turning the key.

Right, I imagine they could redesign everything to get it to function properly with that button, but why go thru all that just to satisfy a small number of people?

They could just put it in all the trucks. Toyota still sells thousands of MT trucks.

There was a Thread on here in the past month about hard starting, according to that thread the push button starting system energizes components differently than the key ignition. I realized Toyota sells thousands of MT trucks but i'm sure its only a tiny amount of those buyers that are clamoring over having a PBS.

I don’t care nearly as much about push button start as I do the smartkey (grab the door handle with a fob in your pocket to unlock the door). That’s really the main thing I’m after. Of course it defeats the point if you have to dig a key out to start the thing so push button ignition makes sense.

To me it’s one of those things that once you’ve had it, it becomes habitual. I find myself just walking up and yanking on my truck handles like I do my wife’s Sienna.

From watching the interview with Seatbelt Mike, he mentions needing competition just to go back to corporate to try to ask for a bigger budget. Be thankful we still have a Manual option, just don't think they are going to spend any of the limited budget on trying to add any extras to the MT models.

Don’t get me wrong, I am plenty grateful for the offering. I would be just fine turning that key forever if it means we get a manual.

I was hoping they'd beef up the 4wd switch to distinguish it from the climate control knobs. Ha I can't even tell you how many times I reached down to turn up the fan and I'd turn the 4wd knob instead.

They've also had PTS/smartkey in the FR-S (now 86) for many years. They know how to do it and have put them in MT for quite some time. For some reason they don't want to let us have it in the Tacoma though. The claim it is due to the CSC, but not WHY it is due to that.

Don't get that either, but in the end I didn't mind because it makes the Premium package cheaper on trucks with MT, which I was OK with because I'm not an audio person and didn't really care whether I had JBL or not. I understand others might like it though. Again they say it is because MT, but not the actual reason they can't coexist.

Yet again, WHY does that negate it? What mechanical (or electronic) reason is there that they can't have both. Wish they'd give us a straight answer rather than going around in circles. At least, I've never seen one, just see it used as an excuse.
