Rear passenger wheel sticks out further than left? Why?

Keep in mind I'm no mechanic in any sense of the term...I started off loosening all the bed bolts. Then I got under the truck and found the fuel filler neck bolt and bracket (and loosened), but could not find the bed alignment pin. At least not like the one in tandemgeek's photo that is mounted to a bracket. But rather it is mounted into the frame. As the bed is lowered onto the frame, the pin seats into a plastic (pillar?) the same plastic pillars that the bolts from the bed thread into;

You can see in the photo (the bed is lifted and supported above the frame) the pin is popped out and now sitting next to the hole in the frame where it was mounted. The pillar above the pin has a "dimple" that it seats into. You can also see the bed bolt coming through the pillar next to them. So I popped that pin out preyed the bed over, re-tightened the bed bolts and fuel neck bolt and now my OCD nerve is spared...From this at least! Thanks again for all the help yall. Yessir it is a short bed. I didn't think about that and I read through your blog on the process... Oh well, it still worked and your documentation was the push I needed to get under there and fix it! Thanks again budCheers!!

 

My 17 OR is the same. I just let it go. Nobody else probably notices.

 

That's fine too! Sometimes I just have an unnatural OCD nerve that wont let it go. Everytime I would look at that tire, I'd walk to the other side and hope that it magically moved itself into perfect symmetrical balance...alas, it would not!

 

That’s funny. I’d do that same thing. Even thought about a 1/2” spacer myself! I want perfection dammit!

 

It really wasn't a hard fix at all. And I'm no car guy... Loosen some bed bolts, a fuel neck bolt, raise up bed and pop that alignment pin out. Then bitch slap that puppy into submission!

Now that you’ve aligned the bed to the cab, did you check the cab first?

My 2017 had the same issue, and Toyota had to align the cab first to the frame before matching the bed to the cab, else they would have both been off. I only found the issue when I tried to put a shell on it, there was no way to match it to the cab.

I forgot to mention mine was a long bed. Loosen the 6 bolts, a little nudge here and a nudge there, and done. The bumper lights were the worst part out of it all. Took me about 10 mins to get them both out. After that it was smooth sailing aligning the bumper to the bed. Its amazing how flimsy that bumper is once you take it all apart.

In my case I adjusted the bed to the axle. I did put a tape measure on the back of the cab and was spot on both sides. It was a minor adjustment to make up that 3/8" closer to the rear of the bed.

Do Tacoma’s have a track bar on th rear axle? If a truck with a track bar is lifted the axle will shift, because the bar length stays constant as the axle is moved down, resulting in an uneven axle. My 4 door Jeep JK has track bars on both axles, each the opposite direction which magnifies the uneven look. Luckily there are adjustable track bars available.

I have noticed on my 07 ACLB for a while that my rear pass. Tire sticks out farther that the right and the whole driver side is leaning lower than the pass. side. Just measured and the rear pass. side wheel well is 3/4” higher than the driver side but the front is even. Anybody know what causes this and if it should be fixed to avoid future repairs...

 

On the tire sticking out a little more on one side, I believe that is to counter act axle wrap during acceleration.
On the drivers side lean, that is referred to as “Taco Lean”. If you’re coils are warn out, that could be causing the lean. If you have aftermarket coil overs, usually people add a 1/4in spacer to offset the lean. The reason it leans is because all you’re weight is on the left side, battery, gas tank, most of the time just a single driver.
That’s why if you look, on stock coil overs, you’re springs are side specific, I forgot the color, but I believe it’s like yellow dot on drivers side always and the other color goes on passenger. Same with the leaf springs, they have markings of LH and RH, the LH spring is a little stiffer to counter act the lean and they have to be installed on the specific side.

 

What’s up cuz I noticed that my passenger side rear tire stick out more than the driver side. I also saw that the left rear side is lean down how do you fix that
