I tried the toothpaste thing about a month ago and the results on mine were almost unnoticeable. UV light in Southern Az is on another level.

I didn’t take before pics but you all know what foggy headlights look like.

Any first gen guys in az want to trade my bumper for a stock one and a tow hitch?

Just recently bought a camper and the bumper I have, the hitch is a bit too tall. I traded my stock rear bumper and hitch for this trail gear one, so I figured I’d give back to the community.

Looking for a clean bumper and hitch. No trash. Thanks guys

    Pictures?

Why not get a drop ball?

Or flip the axle on the trailer.

    Pictures of the bumper?

Might be interested, my stock bumper is in good shape and I have a curt hitch that's basically brand new, just installed it a few months ago.

Not in Az tho, but I could travel depending on where in Az.

Not my truck in the picture but this is the bumper.

That wench isn't centered on the bumper. Kind of strange to mount one that way.

I am fortunate not to have any rust. But I have mods planned and it's only smart to reinforce the frame, so I plan on doing this as well.

Just in case, and for the information of all, what are you guys doing about the rusted bits? I assume cutting out all you can, but I think it only prudent to encapsulate/convert the rusted bits.

When I do this kind of welding, I will clean everything down to clean metal, then I spray it with high-zinc primer or weldable primer (I am not a weldor, but am told by people in the trade that high-zinc primer and weldable primer are pretty much the exact same thing). The idea being- Everything won't be accessible after welding, so at the least, the primed bits will stop rust. Of course, once it's all done, I will typically use POR15 and a topcoat, I'm fond of Hammerite (or Rustoleum Hammered Finish, a close second to the real deal Hammerite) for looks and further protection.

All toothpaste is lapping compound. It only works for the lesser cases of damage.

I just replaced the lighting on my wife's 94 ZJ. SEVERE damage to all the surfaces. I sprayed them with Rustoleum clear UV topcoat hoping to delay further issues.

Pretty much what I did. Wish I’d gone with the weldable primer, that’s a good idea. Lots and lots of grinding. Also cut out and replaced the shock mount gusset with scrap plate.

Converting the rusted area would probably be the best option to keep as much metal in the area as possible. Unless there are rust holes, then I'd probably cut out the rotted stuff to clean it up and patch before welding plate on top. Good converters would be like the pink Naval Jelly stuff or something like it. Prime and paint the repair before plating over it. I need to find some of that weldable primer, that's a great idea.

I'm looking at getting the prefabbed plates that go all around the frame- autorust I think (EDIT- this one? https://www.autorust.com/product/toyota-tacoma-rear-frame-section-bump-stop-set-two-rl-tac-156u-s/) I believe they require replacement of the spring hanger as well- not a problem, a good excuse to add beef.

So I thought one wouldn't spray clear on top of the acrylic as the clear will not handle road crap (rocks, sands, deer, prius, etc).
