SAVE SAVE SAVE. Act like you have an extra big bill every month and pay it by putting that money into your savings account.

Make a budget...and make it as conservative as you can...Put money away for a rainy day or an emergency. Put money away from retirement. And keep yourself to your budget.
Find some good hobbies too...A bowling league or something like that that lets you get out and socialize and what not..

A budget is important but, imho, you still have to live a little (otherwise, what's the fun in being on your own); and, you'll have the rest of your life to worry about money. x2 on moderation.

Search the web- There are tons of great tools/lists out there that'll help you find every expense you might not have thought of...Don't forget that movies/eating out/whatever other entertainment you want costs money too...

You can ask neighbors about what their utilities cost and/or make calls to the companies who provide them to get the numbers for what everything costs...

rent <= 1/3 of your income.
most everything else falls into place since most other living expenses are fixed (ie: gas, electricity, phone, laundry, cable, internet, etc...)

Never settle for something that's beneath you.

Jobs, relationships, adventures, etc. You only get one go-round at this "life" thing, make it count.

Nobody's going to give you anything, so you have to go for it yourself.

Be polite, respectful and honest. And not necessarily in that order.

I don't recommend this. I would get a credit card if you don't already have one. But only use it for a certain thing. When I first got mine I used it for gas and groceries. It is easier this way to pay it off in FULL every month. If you used it for everything while spending the actual money that you have in your bank, you will have a hard time paying the credit card off.

DO NOT fall behind on credit card payments. My credit was a 780 before I had to walk away from my house (a whole other story...). My credit went down to a 610. It is slowly going back up because of the way I use and work the credit cards.
