    That is basically what I have. I used 40x 32650 5ah cells, (4s, 10p). Sometimes pretty cheap on ebay. You have to do your own battery management system though. Peak current is only 3C though so wont work on a winch.

    I think people generally recommend you power your winch off your primary/starter battery anyway.

    A winch is really the only thing most people have that has any sort of high current need. If you don't have to design your aux battery system to handle that high current, it's much easier and safer to build. Since the starter battery is already designed for high current, might as well just use that.

    You can get off the shelf battery management systems for relatively cheap, I think. What did you use?

    There are lots of chinese BMS boards on ebay, I got a 100amp one that was rated for LiFePo. $15
