I got rear ended descending 80 west last weekend around blue canyon. Traffics slowed in front of me due to a Dodge Ram that has spun off into the shoulder (about 8 inches of snow on the road, they closed 80 just 30 minutes after this incident)... anyways I brought my truck to a responsible stop and the guy behind me in a Ford Edge locked up his brakes and came sliding into me at around 25 mph. Tailgates jammed up, taillight broken, bumper busted, bed was driven into the cab so the rear of the cab has two big dents with flaking paint.

Pictures below, anyone have guesses on how much repairs will costs?

If it’s not totaled, any opinions on armor to upgrade on the rear end??

You will need to make a separate insurance claim for depreciation on your truck

Shit luck (been there, recently). I don't suggest adding armour. The damaged parts absorbed part of the impact and less of it made its way to you and your passengers. With a big, heavy piece of steel in the rear, connected directly to your frame, considerably more energy will make its way to you.

In my case, the impact (at - guessing - around 40kph) was on the towing ball/hitch. Since that day in late September, I've been doing physio and chiro twice per week. It's not fun, and is a massive waste of my time. Still have constant back pain 4.5 months later. I would have much rather had the truck be destroyed and written off than dealing with back problems (for god knows how long).

Don't fuck with crumple zones unless you want to become one. All that steel looks good on Instagram, but it's not worth it.

If this isn’t totaled, that isn’t. Also had frame damage

I had asked about that right away, any tips for going about it? I figure I need to wait until I hear what the verdict is from the shop..

Mine was around 45MPH by a GMC Yukon. I smashed into the headrest so hard it broke the internal seat frame.

Thankfully, no need for chiro or any long term medical

We’re you able to get compensated for the depreciation?

Sorry to hear about your injury, thankfully everyone walked away from this one and no serious injuries ( I saw him coming which doesn’t help, but nonetheless I have no back/neck injuries to note)

Nope. Was hit by an uninsured driver so my insurance covered it with my uninsured motorist coverage so I had to pay the deductible. I attempted to recoup diminished value but since my insurance was paying I couldn’t seek it through them. My only choice was to sue the offender...who couldn’t even pay my insurance co.

So yeah, lost $8k-$10k in value of a 5 month old 4Runner.

Still a little sour about it

Your claim will be filed through the person who hit you insurance.

    Workin' on it....
I don’t know what other’s experiences are but when I was hit last year, it sounded like you basically had to hire a lawyer, take the other party to small claims court and get 3 valuations on your vehicle ...... ended up sounding like too much time, money and energy to go after diminished value

Not even remotely close to being totaled.

this was $23K in damage, not totaled... got sandwiched, got a new frame and new front end. I was $3k shy of being totaled out

Nothing happened to my truck. :) Matter of fact I just came in from seeing if I needed to wipe any bird bombs of it. All is good.
