Sometimes you have to hand drill.
Especially if your mag drill takes a shit in the middle of a job

I cut my soap stone in half with a hack saw blade. Far more precise lines this way and you get to leave piles of white powder lying around.

Did the ol notch, bend and fill method to make a new bracket for my battery. Got a new 69lb battery and don’t trust the stock holder. Pairing it with some 3/8” J hooks and nylock nuts.

I am liking that new Esab I got. Had a chance to weld a little. Still need a lot more practice.

I'm aware and will keep a close eye on it. I don't do much fast stuff, but wanted a new holder anyways because the stock one doesn't really fit on this battery. I'll reinforce it somehow if need be.

Don't really see me keeping 2, $1500+ mag drills on hand, though.

There is that but when it puts food on the table more so in these days with the independent distributors for the most going away.

Even as well as I know my regions Air Gas and Praxair people I can picture calling them at home Friday at 2330 saying I need to pick up a bunch of stuff . They would laugh so hard it would be like a Earth Quake .

The difference between doing the fabrication for fun and as a living.

There was a time I had for the most 2 fully outfitted welding Rigs Then the Evil Ex -Wife stopped paying the bills.

Just a quick reply about the Hobart machine s. I have run a Ironman 230 hard for 5 years straight. Not a single problem. TrsnsfoTran tapped machine will go head up with a Miller 252 any day . Using taps is easy. Not a fan of all these new machines and all there fancy electronics.
Go into any old school fab shop and you will always find a old syncrowave 350 Tig machine that has been flying metal together for over 30 years without issue. Grinding dust alone will eventually case issue on all these fancy new machines.
Now, the size and power that comes from these new machines is impressive.
    My 2 cents.

Something to be said I can see in a dry climate Transformers living like forever.

Here unless it lives in climate control all it life transformers start to die from being damp .

Then I see employees can trash a new machine in a few months

Even Engine Drives are getting to many electronics just how many boards can a manufacture keep in stock once that board is no longer used in production.

Back 10 years ago we used to get prints of all the boards now we get test points and values needed .

Just like new welders, all new cars are one big computer. The days of engine block, radiator, carb, trans rear end are gone.
Look at the new diesels. Who in there right mind thought recycling hot dirty exhaust back into the engine was a good idea. DEF fluid, don't get me started.

Just got the service memo. Risk of chassis grounding to a weld output lead. Fix is to add an insulator between them.

Woooo!!! My first parts were a success on the Plasma Table!

I made a little program for cutting out fill plates for the sliders and they came out great! Very minimal dross on the back side. Dimpled them quick and good to be welded in. About 10x faster than doing it by hand! And they’re literally perfect. I couldn’t get the circles that perfect by hand. Very excited to continue using this thing!
