Manual Transmission whine

When I'm coasting, that is, released the accelerator, but still in a gear I get a whining noise, but when I press the clutch it stops. When I release it it comes back. Also if press the accelerator it stops. Is this just normal transmission whine?

 

All have a slight whine on the MT. Mine has done since day one. Its not loud but you can definitely hear it if you listen close.

 

I think most describe it as the diff howl

 

I thought it was diff howl, but I listened to some diff howl vids and it doesn't sound the same nor does it meet the characteristics on the TSB. Also technically based on my VIN number they should have corrected the issue.

It’s been a characteristic Since the 1sr gen pickup. I like the tranny whine.

 

Kinda makes me feel like i have supercharger tbh

My grandfathers ~80 sr5 had a very distinct whine

I honestly think people have just become overly sensitive to the sounds their trucks make. It’s kinda like everyone is expecting shit to be wrong it. I get that some people have legitimate problems but most are just making issues out of nothing

 

If they are coming from a car, to a Tacoma... itll be a sore spot for them... they forget that the Tacoma is a truck. Its not a Unibody ridgeline that handles like a car.
