I searched the forum and found nothing.

The USB port on the dash below the radio has never charged my android phones. Recently I installed an android app Ampere and found most devices charge between 600 -1400 mA.

The USB port on the dash initially indicates 600-700 mA and immediately drops to 10-50 mA. No wonder that port is not charging. Anyone run into this?

It's meant to plug in Media device for music. Like an ipod?

Yup. Use the cigarette outlet in the front or in the console for charging

They are not know for good charging. Best bet is a Lighter plug charger. Mine is inside the console so out of sight when I don't need to charge. The console even has a nifty little cutout for the cord.

Being Toyota they have put the minimal effort into incorporating tech into the vehicle. The port sucks at charging and so does the Qi pad.

Best way to charge a phone is to get a cigarette lighter adapter.

    Literally...not a "charger".

I plug my s8 into DC outlet and it charges to 80% in about 20 minutes. So it works just fine . Get a DC USB plug and you'll be good to go OP

Mine doesn't even work. My truck's less than a year old. Doesn't recognize any use device I connect. Taking it to dealer next week. As for charging, I bought a cigarette lighter charger.

The port is strictly for communications. It cannot charge a modern phone.

If you have any blanks open, could always toss in a charging usb in one of those for a factory look

Any inductive charging pad isn't gonna be a battery rocket. It does well at maintaining a charge at rest, but use it while running GPS or need to quickly charge it and you'll be disappointed.

You could always pick this up, and have two 2.1A rapid charge ports.

Normal. Not a charger. I have a USB drive in mine with my music library.
There is a 'cigarette lighter' receptacle in the dash and one in the center console. You can put a changer in either of these.

They could try holding the button down on the Qi charger for three seconds to enable quick charge mode.

Whatever you plug into that USB port needs to be formatted a certain way. Don't remember what that is. I had the same issue until I figured this tidbit out...

I keep a music thumbdrive in mine, my entire CD collection. Just save folders with the artist name, sub folders with the album name. Entune can find and play it easily by using voice too!

    Yeah.
Those MICTUNING things work well -- I put one in the center console of our '06 4Runner, which is sadly lacking on even cigarette lighter charging points. If you have a thick case on your phone, or other doodads attached to the back, the Qi won't work that well, if at all.
