Anyone seen this site during their research?

    https://rever.co/2016/06/01/azbdr/

According to this description we will be running Sections 1-3(routes #1-5). Not really sure why they have it labeled this way but in an effort to make it as clear as possible, this is cut and paste directly from the site.

    SECTION DESCRIPTIONS
Section 1 (including route #’s 1 & 2) ‘Coronado National Monument to Benson’
The official start to the AZBDR is a stones throw from the Mexico border in the Coronado National Monument. This is an interesting area both geographically and historically. It is the center of four major biogeographic provinces: Madrean, Sonoran, Chihuahuan and southern Rockies/Mogollon. It is also the site of the Francisco Vasquez de Coronado Expedition of 1540-1542. Information about both can be found at the interpretive overlook a few miles from the park entrance. From there, it’s a mellow ride along the border fence using wide graded dirt roads before heading north to the small town of Sonoita. Fuel up here for your journey through Empire Ranch, a historic working cattle ranch from the 1870s.

Highlights: Views to Mexico – Ride along the border fence – Visiting Tombstone & Bisbee – Exploring Empire Ranch Headquarters

    Heads Up
    • Heavy Border Patrol activity, be careful in blind corners.
    • DEEP SAND starting at mile 83 near Empire Ranch. Easier alternate is available.
    • Fuel & Food available in Sonoita.
    • Camping available at Parker Canyon Lake & Empire Ranch.
    • Many lodging options in Benson.
    • You need to have your Arizona State Land Trust permit for this section.
    Section 2 (including route #’s 3 & 4) ‘Benson to Globe’
Heading north out of Benson will bring you through stunningly fertile farmlands along the San Pedro river. The road is wide and hard-packed with no major obstacles. It’s a straight shot up to the small town of Mammoth where you can fuel up. Shove a pack of homemade tortillas in your pannier – the time Mexican restaurant next to the gas station in Mammoth makes them hot and fresh and are possible the best we’ve every tasted. Beyond Mammoth you will be paralleling the highway on a narrow dirt road on your way to Winkelman. The ride from Winkelman to Globe is a fantastic one. Cactus filled desert disappears into high elevation pine forests as you ride stunning ridges on the way to Pioneer Pass.

Highlights: Saguaro cactus – Fertile farmland – Pioneer Pass above Globe

    Heads Up
    • Limited camping opportunities along Cascabel Road north of Benson.
    • Fuel and food are available in Benson, Mammoth, Winkelman and Globe.
    • Globe is a substantial sized town with many lodging and restaurant options.
Section 3 (including route # 5) ‘Globe to Highway 260’
This is a long and remote section with limited bailout points. Once you get north of Roosevelt Lake, the road turns from pavement to wide two lane gravel road with plenty of camping spots among the giant cactus. Ride a little further towards Coon Creek and Cherry Creek for even better campsites tucked under cottonwood trees along the water. The ride from Coon Creek north to Young is some of the most difficult on the trip with relentlessly rocky two track. Highway 288 is an easier alternative with a mix of dirt and pavement that will bring you into Young from the south.

Highlights: Camping along Cherry Creek – Views of Roosevelt Lake – Fun two track roads in desolate terrain

    Heads Up
    • There is no fuel between Globe and Young (80 miles).
    • Food and regular unleaded gas is limited but available in Young.
    • No lodging along this section.
Section 4 (including route # 6) ‘Highway 260 to Winona’
The saguaro cactus and dry deserts make way to ponderosa pine, sandstone cliffs and dramatic canyons in Section 4. You get a sense for this change almost immediately as the road climbs onto the Mogollon Rim, a 200-mile escarpment that marks the edge of the Colorado Plateau. You can expect a reasonable amount of weekend camping traffic early in this section but expect to see few people the further you go.

Highlights: Views from Mogollon Rim – Gorgeous lakes and wildlife

    Heads Up
    • There are no services in this section.
    • If you need gas at Highway 87, turn left (West). 9.5 miles to gas and food.
    • If you need gas at NF 125, turn left (West) to Mormon Lake Lodge (Regular Unleaded Only).
    • Plenty of remote camping available along entire section.

For section 1 it mentioned needing a state trust permit. How difficult is that to get? There enough time to get one still?

Last one I got took about 3 days to get emailed to me.

That being said, an AZ fish/hunt license gives you rights to use State land in the same way.

UPDATE: the ASLD web page has been updated and once your payment processes either 15$ for single person use or 20$ for family use, you’ll get an email immediately with your permit attached.

I did mine at work, cost $20.00 for a year and I printed it off at completion. Took five whole minutes.

    Hey all,
I wont be able to join you all fully this trip due to my work schedule this month but do you have an idea of when you will head down my way? I live about 10min away from that part of the mexico border and could join you for the Montezuma pass portion.

Phoenix people, did anybody still want to meet and convoy down? I might be able to head down Thursday afternoon or definitely can leave early early on Friday.

I'm fine meeting anywhere. I am leaving Thursday as planned. Let me know where you want to meet up at and what time.

These (2) Badass TW members are in as well! So we need to add them to the list.

    @Tatanka_17
    @OmegaMan73

I am meeting with @Tatanka_17 this weekend to get last minutes in order and she has friday of too!
i spoke with @OmegaMan73 last week and he said he was in. We also talked about going all the way up to Utah or at least if anything doing sections #5-6 all the way to Young! Cherry Creek (FR203) is AWESOME! For me one of the best tracks in the lot!

I also have a hunting license so I am ready for State trust land!

I deer hunted for years by the border....its a mess and theres no doubt on the seeing of Border Patrol.

This is awesome!!!! Good things bro!

Also I would preferably like to leave as early as we can! That being said I know not everyone can. It would be awesome to have everyone at the Trail head by 10am. Once aired down to 25 psi....I am ready to rock!

Original post updated with confirmed attendees.

***Plan is set: Meet at Montenzuma Pass between 10-11am on 2/22/2019. We will depart shortly thereafter.

If you guys want to caravan from Phx or Tuc, on Thursday or Friday, go ahead and make those plans. Official start will be as is noted above. We are going to have a blast and the weather will make it all the more interesting.

At this point does everyone have the ASLD permit and any needed items?

Does anyone need anything or any assistance on their trucks prior?

Thanks to all of you for helping make this happen. We are really excited for this adventure.

For those of you heading out on Thursday, where are you planning to camp? I'm currently looking around for a spot close to Montezuma.

There is dirt road past MOntezuma's Pass about 1000 yards on the left. Seems to be an unnamed dirt road. We could prob camp there? or there's these 3 pay campsites which might be safer
