Hello everyone! I'm new to TW and just wanted to get some advice and suggestions on what type of subwoofer/box I should go with. Since I just purchased a 2011 Tacoma Double Cab. I'm looking to upgrade my entire audio system, which includes a new HU, door speakers, 4 channel amp, 2 channel amp and a subwoofer or subwoofers.

Lucky for me I kept my old audio stuff when i traded in the car.

    My Setup so far is:

    Headunit: Pioneer SPH-DA120
Door Speakers: Polk DB 6x9 & 6.5 with adapters
Mono Amp: Renegade REN850S Mono Amplifier 1000 Watts
4 Channel Amp: Rockford Fosgate Punch 301x 900w or KICKER ZX Series ZX200.4 (I have two four channel amps but not sure which one to use.)

Now I don't care for the plastic storage stuff in the rear so I don't mind taking them all out. I just want some subs that will sound great but at a decent price...I'm looking to spend about $300-400 on a sub or two subs. Either go with two 10" or one 12".

I'm only using Ebay as a guide but these are some boxes that I found:

    Two 10's

    One 12"

I also saw this JL AUDIO CS110TG-TW3 10" with a box already but not sure how it will fit in the truck? Anyone have this sub and box in their truck?

Any feedback or suggestions will be great!

    Here's my TACO btw!

I just bought that same head unit please let me know how your install goes and maybe post pics...

I went with a ********* subwoofer box and bought a JL Audio 10" from Crutchfield.

    Which model is that JL?

Did you get a discount from *********.com for being a TW member?

I was thinking on doing the same thing but instead go with there Image Dynamics 12inch subwoofer....

As for the Pioneer head unit, I LOVE IT! Super responsive with the capacity screen. If you have an Apple phone, then you won't regret your decision like i did.

I am retired military so they gave me that discount. I ended up going JL over the Image Dynamics because of the reviews I read online but I could have gone either way. The JL is their
    JL Audio 10W1v3-4..

Those prefab JL boxes are pretty nice and will fit. I used to have the 8 inch ported w3 in mine. Fit inside the plastic bin on the passenger side. I just cut the shelf out.

Currently have a custom box behind the passenger seat with an Image Dynamics IDQ 10". Would recommend that as well.

How do you like the Image Dynamic IDQ subwoofer?

I was thinking about going with *********.com setup with the box and 12inch subwoofer.

I had a car stereo store build a custom sub enclosure for my 02 double cab . it has (2) 8" Pioneer shallow mount subs . for being a small box it still thumps hard

SR5 chrome grill, Tundra alloys. The latest 16" Michelin Defenders, Pioneer HU, Alpine Power Pack, JL C2-650 components, JL 10 Powered sub, Spyder brand fog and halos (which are total crap). Katskin aftermarket black/grey leather.
Someone did a great job installing that HU. I have the Pioneer AVH-X4700BS in my access cab. I like it, but a Kenwood may have been a better investment. We put JL 6.5 components in the front doors, cut the lines to the overhead "exciters", and just "lined out" a 10' powered JL Audio ACS110LG-TW1 sitting flat behind the passenger seat. The box fits perfect there. If I want more bass, I could run another identical sub behind the driver seat. However...at this age, I need to be a bit careful with my eardrums. Either way, be careful when buying recommended systems from the BigBox stores. They will mislead you, especially if they are getting bonuses or commish selling you the mainstream gear. I used to get a stack of free gear at the end of the year from Pioneer after pushing their entire catalog. Did I care about the customer? Hell no!

I have an 8" Alpine type R. No overdose of bass by any means, but it surprises me sometimes. It can shake the rear view mirror without distorting when I'm pushing it hard.

Best part about it is I havn't lost any space in my already small access cab. IMO, that's how you figure out what Sub you are going to get. How much space are you willing to give up in your cab for bass? That's the first question you have to answer.

I have heard the Alpine Type-Rs and have been very impressed. Same with Polk Audio DBs and MM lines in 8" woofer.

Not that it will fit bit I ran a Digital Designs 1500series 8" with a few upgrades in an enclosire the size of a shoebox and it was unreal.

Guess my point is, don't underestimate size.
If your trying to blow the doors off, by all means, go for it. If not, consider an 8" woofer.

It does provide very tight and accurate bass, being in a sealed box. It goes well with my Image Dyanmics components. Good for SQ-type setups, instead of SPL.
