After my tax return, I’ll be lucky if I can afford a bumper sticker

Huh, I just don't know yet. The tax preparer is busily working on it.

Last year I had to pay a good bit due to dividend income, rental income, and realized gains from selling some stocks. Ugh.
So I adjusted withholding to married filing as single, no deductions.

Then I got injured in August and got Workers' Comp for six weeks.
After the surgery (inguinal hernia), I said to Hell with it, I'm retiring.

Bought a condo in September (cash) as a second rental property and rented it out immediately, so there's that as well.
(And bought my Tacoma then too, again cash. A real spending spree for me.)

Shit. I dread what the tax guy is gonna say. Dunno how the new tax laws will work out for me.
I'm far from wealthy, but state, local and Federal governments want more all the time.
I may have to reconsider waiting for full retirement age for SS.

    Was that TMI?
    Sorry. Ha.
But I bet a lot of you older guys on the cusp of retirement have similar concerns.

If I get anything back, it's gonna get re-invested.

    Yeah. Capital gains.

What I didn't mention is that I sold some stocks to buy the condo.
And there was a sizeable realized gain on the sale of those stocks.
They're gonna get me for that.

I have no idea what to expect this year.
Never had so complicated a tax situation before.

[EDIT] Sorry for going a little off topic.

I don't get refunds... I never understood why taxpayers give the US Gov’t an interest free loan... I prefer to owe a few hundred bucks in April.
