My tracks appear to be a factory install from CTC, and placement seems pretty consistent with what I've seen on their site/elsewhere. I'll keep an eye out for any indication of stress/cracks/failure, but I trust it as is.

You are literally going through the same issue as me, want to install tracks and don't whether to drill through the Honeycomb or outside. I know people say there might be issues when tightening the bolts as it could cause the honeycomb structure to crunch and damn dealers charge and arm and a leg. I feel stupid not ordering with tracks from the get go.

The same shit everyone else has.
I installed a set of tracks on my shell. Instructions say to mount as far outwards while still staying in the flat part of the shell.

Don’t think that would be possible on mine

Honeycomb part takes up almost entire roof

don't all honeycomb shells have backing put in at the factory? if not, then almost every shell is (in addition to body color finish) truly a "custom" order?

from a manufacturer's standpoint, that seems like it would be a flippin' nightmare.

Do not install tracks through the thick honey comb part of your roof! There should be enough room outside of it in the flat portion of the roof. I have installed tracks and bought shells with them installed, they are always installed outside of the honeycomb. You will crush the shell upon installation or upon load. I have had several shells over the years and never had a problem. The strength of the roof comes from the thickness of the fiberglass at that point and is distributed down and over. Consult the manufacturer or dealership for location.

I've seen lots of photos of truck shells with great looking sleeping platforms which also house equipment racks that slide/store under the platforms; that folks have made. Are there any commercially manufactured units available ?
