Randall, have you had any formal training as far as welding goes???

I have always wanted to learn, but have been intimidated...if you are truly self taught, you give me hope!

Your set up isn't super expensive either is it?

All self taught! Just YouTube, and practice practice practice. My welder was $380, tank of gas $120, table $50, and gloves and helmet you can get for another $50 but I opted for a nicer, more expensive helmet. And a cart. Literally everything is from harbor freight.

 

What welder? I was looking at Hobart and Everlast but if the HF is a good unit then I may go that route to save some coin.

 

This one! Also bought a two year warranty on it. It’s pretty solid.

Is the MIG gun pretty solid? I had a HF MIG (Chicago Electric) and after three projects the part the nozzle threads on broke off and the handle just fell to pieces. Then trying to find replacement parts was a nightmare. It's gathering dust in a corner somewhere in my dad's shop now. Don't want a repeat, especially at three-four times the price.

 

The Chicago ones are junk. Go to the store and check it out in person and you’ll be impressed. Everything about it is pretty high quality.

 

Sweet. Definitely hoping to have one this summer. Might try fabbing up some skids. Eventually I want to fab my own bumpers, but the effort may outweigh the savings.

 

No wonder the pep boys deal was so good. The jack looks like they drug it behind the truck that took it to the store!
