The dog park we go to is about 5 acres of open field and all the dogs just go batshit. I love it and so does Lincoln. Like, I honestly look forward to going to it. I don't worry about my little poochie, he can handle himself.

Our dog park nightmare came from owners of little dogs that were complete untrained that were being aggressive with our German Shepherd. She ignored them for the most part and my wife even spoke to the owners and their rely was effectively, “they’re so small it’s adorable isn’t it.” Wife pissed them off informing them that it’s irresponsible to let untrained dogs off their leash.

We left before things got worse and our girls patience ran out. Lazy, selfish people think their little babies are being cute when in fact they are being viscous little shits. Unless we are traveling and don’t know the neighborhoods we avoid them as much as possible.

Dusty is 10 months today. He can’t go to the dog park because he is a rapist dog. Don’t let that look fool you. He’s thinking only one thing.

My boxer would sit or stand patiently by my side when we went to the dog beach....until a yippy little POS rat dog would instigate something. She loved to chase them, if they started yelping out of fear she only chased them harder. She'd extend a paw & bat them around every few strides, they'd tumble & yelp. She'd stop after a minute & reassess to see if they found the "act right" they were looking for. If not, she'd up the stakes & gently lift them up in her mouth (like a mom does her pups). Usually the rat's owner would come around crying, saying my big mean boxer was killing their poor squeeling yapping rat. I'd calmly give her the "drop it" command, and she'd heel back to my side. We'd return to our base camp & sit, calmly, waiting for the next untrained fur rat to come around & start something they couldn't finish.

    Rip ol girl, EOW 2/25/2018

<Edit to add>: wow, can ya tell I don't like rat dogs??

When ours was about 4 months old, we took him to a dog park. As we were walking towards the gate someones Husky was biting the fence trying to get our pup. We walked right past the gate and back to the truck. Never again.

Damn fellas. Sorry to hear about all the shitty stories and I apologize for rehashing, but that’s kind of why I brought it up. As I wrote in the post before I’m not a professional dog trainer but I’ve done a lot of homework and worked with quite a few trainers. It’s kind of one of my side passions, not a single one of them would ever say “yea take your dog to the dog park, it’s a great idea”. To the homie that lives near a dog park that is 5 acres, damn man if they give that much land to a dog park you must be 5 minutes from open wilderness.

Two main reasons people take their dogs to dog parks are: get the dog excersize and let them play with other dogs.

People have great experiences at dog parks every day, I’m not denying that. But it only takes one shitty day to wreck a dog for the rest of their lives. I know this because back in the day before I knew what I know now I took a dog to the dog park and he got hassled like a mother fucker, despite me trying to keep other dogs away and the other “owners” just kept saying oh my dog is friendly. That dog became aggressive and skiddish from that day. Could he have become like that later? Absolutely. But that’s not the point.

If you want to excersize your dog go fucking run them yourself. If you have a physical impairment, flirt pole, tug, retrieve, or schedule your day to where your dog can run without others around. If you want to socialize your dog (and you should) find others who prioritize their dog like you do and introduce them slowly. Only let them play with dogs who’s owners have the same beliefs you do. If you don’t know anyone then yelp dog trainer for your area and I bet they know a few people.

I love dogs, but fucking hate shitty dog owners. Sadly I see more bad dog owners than good. But like I said I’m not a professional

    Yeah.
Personally, I've never understood the dog park concept, and regardless of training, some dogs just won't do well in those situations. It's not really in a dog's nature to join a random, unorganized pack (at least not within an hour at a dog park). I've had dogs that would do fine, and others that wouldn't. I had Basenjis in the past, and they meet other dogs by running directly up to them and getting in their face. This is usually perceived as aggression and met with the same, or fear in some cases. I have Shibas now, and the young one would do fine (she is still a pup), but my 5 yr old male is protective and takes a while to warm up to other dogs. He's "socially inept" and just awkward with other dogs at first.

Anyway, I have a big fenced yard and they have each other to play with. I have no need of a dog park. Good for socializing puppies, maybe.
