@Prayn4surf has some on his rear. they are solid plates so you really can't tell they are there. vs i think trail gear has the holes in the middle.

those 2" spacers are what's saving you. Lose those and even your 1/4" advantage from the 2.0's is gone.

4.5" bs on the wheel + 2" on the spacers. Don't remember the ofset on the wheel but it might be 0. at work so that info eludes me currently.

 indeed it is. Not that 1/4" is much of an advantage. At full gnarly articulation there WILL be rub.
Solution to that is to swap the axle for an FJ or Tundra if we want to eliminate the spacers and run less BS.

What width tire are you running again @Willbeck?

Swapping to a tundra axle is a bit extreme for most. 6'' wider over all.

FJ is only 2.5'' wider total. So barely better than some spacers.

I know you guys moved past this already, but I'm catching up on this thread right now, and want to participate lol.

I'm assuming @Blackdawg meant articulated flex travel vs true vertical of the axle... maybe you guys understood this without anyone explicitly saying it, so sorry for this if it is redundant for anyone.

With outboard mounted shocks the amount of travel at the wheel during flex is much closer to the travel of the shock.

With inboard shocks mounted at an angle... ]_/_o_\_[ the amount of travel at the wheel during flex can be more than the travel of the shock (similar triangles).

The same concept is why outboard mounted shocks behave favorably in roll scenarios, because the motion ratio of the shock to wheel is closer to 1.0 in roll and bump, whereas inboard mounted shocks have a motion ratio that is composite of roll and bump, and the MR can vary quite a bit during travel depending on the installed angle of the shock, resulting in a divergent relationship when trying to tune bump and roll.

Yeah it would be to eliminate and or scale down the spacer. But yes.. extreme. Unless that was your plan all along

You need fiberglass bed sides to do the tundra/t100 axle swap. 3" per side is just too much.

Fj you wouldn't. But you probably still be running a 1" spacer at least

How many different axles will accept our 8.4 third? I know the early Tundy/t100 do, what about the FJ, 2nd gen, etc?

2nd gen axles will. but only 1'' wider per side more than ours. Of course not the elocker axle. Though the elocker diff from ours is the same as theirs too.

3rd and 4th gen 4runners too non elockers.

LC will not. they run a 9.5'' diff. Im not a LC guru so there might be some out there that run it but I don't think so. Pretty certain they all have a 9.5 since early 90s.

The newer FJ also runs a 8.4 with no elocker.
