@TreeFortRichard @Clark27 @Spare Parts and anyone else I may have forgotten about. You guys are being very very civilized (and making some good points) HOWEVER as we all know TW has some very specific rules about taking about politics. So I'm asking you guys to please stop posting about this subject on the open forum. I don't want to get this thread shut down for any reason. Thank you.

Also, if you guys want you can talk about it in PM's. You can even include me in there if you guys want. Thanks again.

I refused to look at some houses in Adams and Lanesborough due to the tax rates. I can't be the only one who thinks that way, but the leadership in those towns doesn't seem to think they have a problem.

If the politics goes to PM's, can I come to? :anonymous: I've enjoyed reading the different perspectives and civil debate.

Berk county is filled with councils that destroy the towns ability to do business or live in, and then look around and say "what happened"

Look at lanesboro, literally closing their police station because its gonna kill the guys in there with mold or just fall over on them, some of the highest taxes around...can't give the police something better than a old car garage as a station and their roads are shit and I think the ambulance company just left town last year...WHAT are they paying for?

I am the same as you, we looked all over for two years before just saying "Hancock it is". Our tax rate is 3.33 per 1k this year, my 1300 sqft house is gonna cost me about 5-700 a year in taxes depending on final numbers. Our business which is like 6k sqft total on 75 acres paid under 6k last year. We will save over 600k (really more since we will expand) over 30 years by being in Hancock and not williamstown/lanesboro/pittsfield. That is a HUGE deal for us with the amount of profit we barely squeak out right now. We literally wouldn't survive in another town and would have already shut down. Don't have an extra 30k laying around for taxes every year.

I will out of respect for how nicely you asked, but think we have been talking more about the government as a whole and not a “political” debate then tends to get people in trouble. Have a good day all.

May have to splurge on an entry level smoker when the tax return comes in.

Start with a pork shoulder...they are like $1 a pound at Wegmans...Trim all the surface fat off to less than 1/8 inch, rub it down and then throw it on the smoker at 250F...leave it there until the inner temp hits 165F and then put a blanket made of aluminum foil over it until it hits 200F...Take it off and set it in your oven (oven off) to cool back down to less than 150F and shred it...PERFECTION...You can't screw it up. You'll turn a $14 piece of meat into 30 servings of pulled pork. I then freeze 1/4lb bags of the pork to add to sauces/rice/burritos/omelettes etc when you want an easy protein....My favorite is pulled pork in a frying pan, white whine saute it and then dump some bbq sauce on it and let it caramelize...best sandwich ever

I'd love to have a smoker, but it's not a worthwhile investment for me because the GF won't eat smoked meat. Even tossing a handful or two of hickory chips on the charcoal is enough to make her wrinkle her nose while we're eating
