Shortly Antenna's, Who has them?

Hey Guys,

I am looking into getting this 8inch short Antenna. The company that makes them claims you will not lose any reception... But why wouldn't auto manufactures just put short antennas on vehicles anyways if its the same signal? They would save on metal.

So who has them and what is your experience with them? Any loss of radio frequencies?

I put a shorty on and lost quite a bit of reception. I still run it because it looks so damn good. Its a toss up. Good luck.

 

i purchased that antenna Solely for tha LOOK n Love it. YES, i lost sum reception but hey it COSTS TO FLOSS! haha!

 

I ran a billet antenna on my old truck, My brother has one on his truck and my mom has on on her tundra. They work pretty good. I dont remember the make but If I remember correctly we got them from 4wheelparts.

 

I love my Craven Speed Antenna...

there are two different styles availible. i have the regular one and JB3CK24 has the bullet one.

pretty good reception for a shorty, but of course it isn't as good as the stock one. and its pretty damn short lol

I didn't lose any reception with my short antenna but I listen to XM all the time so I wouldn't be good to ask.

 

When I switched to my stubby antenna I lost reception on the majority of radio stations. But I can still hear certain radio stations perfectly. Unfortunately those stations are not my favorites.

 

Not to thread jack but any suggestions for a better looking XM antennae? I think the ones they have now are not all that hi-speed....

 

More or less the same for me...but since I bought my antenna my favorite station went from hard rock to soft/classic rock...Not good. Luckily my iPod works great...

 

I clipped my stock one to be 1" higher then the roof. That meant removing 10" of antenna, but the radio still works like stock.

 

I also have the Craven Speed antenna. I really liked the looks of it, but took it off because of the drop in signal. I lost about half of my presets.

 

I just got that EXACT one you are looking at about a week ago, it looks awesome and I honestly haven't lost ANY reception... granted I live in a compact valley of apprx 80,000 people, so the signals for the stations here probably don't have to go that far, I haven't really gotten outside of the valley into the mountains since getting it, but I'm really happy with it

 

I think I took around 8" off. Just enough for it to clear the beam in my garage. And as you said, it works as good as stock.

 

FM is for suckers!!
I really don't care what antenna is there, I listen to Pandora or ipod mostly

I should say that I DO like the looks of the stubby tho

just bought my second of these. be sure to remove before going through the wash, lol. and the reception worked just fine.

AM/FM antennas are cut 31 inches because that's the lowest frequency of FM radio stations, 88Mhz. It's a quarter-wave antenna.
The antenna can't be any smaller than 15 inches. That would be a 1/8th wavelength antenna, which isn't very efficient on a vehicle because it's mounted on a fender.

So any antenna smaller than 15 inches is theoretically useless....
If you still get reception, it's simply because you live in a populated area, where the radio stations output thousands of watts.

 

So how long is the stock antenna...??
