Help: Bypassing brake pedal for push start

All remote starts just need you to put the key in and turn it on before you do anything else... the car stays running. With keyless you don't even have to do that.

 

There is so much stupid in those three paragraphs I can’t even begin to respond. Through my 37 year career as a registered professional (electrical) engineer, I’ve never once thought “damn...if I could only have the cocky electrician with the chip on his shoulder show me how to bend conduit, my life would be complete”. But then again, I could teach my dog to do that.

Fortunately, my career has led me into much higher technology than pulling 12/2 Romex into blue plastic Carlon boxes. I’ve wired countless homes, churches and schools over the years through community outreach programs - as well as homes we’ve built to live in. I’ve done process control system design for large industrial plants for many years. I’ve signed and sealed a lot of drawings.

I know the NEC from cover to cover. But, ‘in general’ I’m the idiot you are referring to. Have a nice day.

 

For those that say NO WARMUP is better on cold mornings, you ABSOLUTELY cannot make me believe that that its better to get straight in a cold vehicle start and GO. My reason for saying so is that EVERYONE that does that experiences that hard "CLUNK" when you shift into D OR R when the motor is at high RPMS, and it should be "common sense" that it CANT be good for the tranny. I let mine warm up for at least 3 minutes on COLD mornings ~50 or lower and a minimum of 1 minute when WARM ~70+. That said, I admit I DO see people do it ALL the time though(especially when leaving work), as if 1-3 minutes is gonna make you that much later to wherever you are going...LOL

Just my and a few others opinion, YMMV....

 

If you go into the sticky threads and look under "Tips and Tricks on the 3rd Gen Tacoma" (thanks AAChaoshand), in the first "Small Features..."section #63 it says if you press the push to start button once (aux) then press it again and hold it down steady, after about 15 seconds the truck will start WITHOUT touching the brake pedal. Read it and went out to try it and it does work, but if I remember right it took over 15 seconds... maybe even closer to a minute. a lot of great info in the sticky thread section... thanks TW.

 

Sure you can. Just press "Clutch Start Cancel" and all your dreams come true.

You're going to need to trade in for an MT, but you need to do that anyway

ED: Whoa, this thread is ancient! It's dusty in here and my allergies are a mess...not to mention the mouse poop.

 

Maybe in the US its different.
But here the engineers are all complete idiots that miss tons of stuff from electrical code to fire safety.

Given I've worked in electrical engineers homes and they can't even reset a breaker properly

Certainly know the ones I've dealt with are.

 

So did he ever figure out how to bypass the brake pedal or nahh. On a side note I let my truck idle for 20 minutes this morning. Felt good.

 

I tried this and this method does not work for my truck, 2018 model.

 

On a cold day, I just open the door, push the brake pedal with my left hand and reach up and press the start button. Never even get in the truck. I'll let it idle for about 5 minutes, in which the heat will be warm then!

 

Now we just hold down the start button a lil longer

 

On my old 2011 regular cab manual. There was “start assist”. It would let you start in 1st gear (no clutch) so it would roll a little with the starter motor.
If you have manual tran could leave in neutral and do that. If automatic would probably require some wiring work
