Is that the DRZ? Good looking set up. I noticed its on the truck, is that because it would be worthless right now.. Where are you located in Seattle? I grew up in freemont, I had the DRZ 400 which was a pretty fun there.

Mockup stem is about a 38mm stack height. Top of steer is about 13mm below mockup stem top.

Something like a deity copperhead at a 30mm stack puts me back down near a 5mm space, probably nearly flush with the upper stem bolt and close. Worst case I drop the headset and face the headtube grabbing me another .5-1mm, and maybe cut deep and a few passes and cut an extra 1mm for a 2-3mm ideal tube to stem gap. Plan now is to find a dope 28-30mm stack stem before I go too far.

While I havent delved into my bikes this far, I do deal with close tolerances on compressors, pumps, whatever...

Anyway, I would personally prefer to modify a shim stack, vs the tube.
But, like I said, I havent dug into my bikes that far to have a solid opinion.

Thanks, I did a little search and I can indeed buy the XD freehub for my SRAM hubs (go figure). It’s about $70. The GX cassette is about $120, and then a new 11 speed chain and 30T n/w chainring ($60 for both) is pretty straightforward. But ... my rims are really narrow (WTB i19) and if I’m spending $70 on a driver should I look for a full wheel set with XD ... and my rear triangle and fork are non-boost, which makes it hard to find pre-built wheels, but even a $300-400 wheel set will be a huge improvement over what I have.

Sweet thread a tad old-ish but some activity. Got my bikes mounted on my toolbox, got some axles mounts on the top with some bigger washers under them to reneinforce the top side of the toolbox. Just use a thought axles adapters for the mountain bikes since the road bikes are sit ons. Mines a Trek Ex6, not sure what time road bike she has, lol.

Wr250x, the drz400 was my other choice but couldn’t pass this deal up. This was from a few months back when I took it out to some roads out by Winthrop and Leavenworth... yea this weather needs to chill out in Seattle so I can get back to riding

Build it. If you're on a budget, a complete gets your going cheaper, then you can replace as needed but you'll spend more in the long run. Plus, building is fun and you have a bike specific to you and your wants.
Manuf. have to build a bike as generally acceptable to most, but not perfect for you.

My issue is a lot of the steel-is-real British 4130 frames I want are frame only anyways.
