    That really sucks.

Years ago, before I had my Tacoma, I had a brand new 2012 tC and a woman on her cell phone hit me from behind going maybe 5mph at a stop light. I was livid of course, being that my car was brand new. I got out and saw that the only damage to my car's bumper was a couple small imprints from her license plate...barely noticeable unless you really looked. Being my car still had dealer plates on it, I exchanged insurance info with her but ended up just letting it go and didn't bother following through after I got home and calmed down. Wasn't worth the trouble. Maybe some would say I should have, but at the end of the day it was just a couple barely noticeable imprints and not with the hassle.

An ex girlfriend of mine got hit by someone in a similar incident and he actually took her to court and got her insurance company to pay him thousands in "damages" with a fake neck cast on and everything when they went to court. Some people exist solely to look for easy shortcuts in life.

I had a similar experience, over 2 years of litigation, depositions, bullshit because I backed out of a parking spot into a guy who pretty much whipped his car behind me and I got him with the spare on the back, a minor scrape.

He got out of the car and started pointing at rust and bondo falling off his rear quarter. This asshole took it to a state Supreme Court jury trial, it was fucking laughable.

Information was produced by my lawyer that the guy had been involved in multiple similar incidents, in the same vehicle, and had been paid out by those, but my insurance was not prepared to give him anything, ended up bringing in a university physics professor to contest his description of the accident.

It was dismissed, guy didn’t get a dime.

In that situation, he was the one who insisted on the police report, and it ultimately burned him, so yeah, getting the police report helped me in the long run.

Would it generally be good to file a police report even if both parties agreed to not take any action? When I was rear ended, I was in the same situation as you. It was clearly her fault, but I got out and checked for damage and I couldn’t find a scratch. We shook hands and went on our way.

Wonder if that could ever come back to bite me in the ass. I did have dash cam footage, but who knows.

Since she was at fault then it won't come back to you. Can't think of how it could..sure there's a way.

Since you have footage that will save you.

Doing a police report from your stand point doesn't cost you anything at all. Her insurance rates might go up but yours shouldn't. So there would have been no harm in doing it to cover your ass.

Based off of everyone’s stories I’d tell you get the police report 100% of the time. If you both decide to do nothing about it, that’s fine but you won’t have to worry about regretting not getting it later. Regardless of who’s at fault, the report is there as a protection.

It was a pain to find a 4.30 front diff for my truck when I did my conversion. Every yard I called me didn’t have a front Tacoma 4.30 diff in their system at all. They’re way more common in 4Runners, which is where I ended up getting mine from.

Thanks guys. Just want to make sure I have all my bases covered in this society where a lawsuit or insurance fraud is like a drop of the hat.

It's amazing how much more common it is in heavy urban areas. I'd never seen commercials or ads for lawyers just for traffic incidents until I was in St Louis. It was amazing how much if it there was.

All I see are those ambulance chaser billboards around here. I was watching TV last night, and saw an ad for a law firm who specifically worked with motorcyclists exclusively.

That and Marijuna home delivery service billboards.

The term he's looking for is "nutsert". It's like a rivet, but with a threaded portion internally. They are a godsend.
You do need a special tool to use them, but it is worth it.

Because I also got into another accident that the owner claimed was his fault BUT the insurance company refused to pay up which wasted my time in lawyering up. Get the police report is a safe bet is what I've gotten from my past experience.

Put on a 13mm top plate spacer because my springs settled a little more than I wanted to. Finally got a legit alignment, took a bath.

    Stuff. Also things.
    Nooo!!!

Any damage to J5 other than the tailgate? Sucks that the guy was on a suspended license, but that should blow back on him, hopefully.

I got rear-ended on the freeway between Boulder and Denver and knew it was gonna happen. It was snowing and the dumbfuck refused to keep some space between us. I had plenty of room in front of me, so when I saw the traffic slow and then stop I was fine, but I looked back just in time to see the bastard look up from his phone, slam on his brakes and slam into me. On top of that, he was driving someone else’s vehicle and it was uninsured. My insurance company fucked that dude and his buddy up. Ended up totalling my car and used the funds as a down payment on a new car for the ex. That whole situation was a giant pain in the ass.
