What type of subwoofer to get?

Just got the stealth, like it alot, but yes...lots of money. If you can get a custom box with the same sub you might be able to save a bit and have very similiar performance.

 

I don't think it would pound all that hard. If your looking for uber bass that drowns out your other sound you should go with 10 or a 12. My 8" gives you a hit, impact, but it doesn't really fill the cab up with bass.

 

I am looking for something that when I am doing 70mph down the freeway, I can still hear my music/bass and the impact of a subwoofer. I dont just want loud music but cannot hear the sub......if the JL stealthbox achieves this than I will call it a day and just go this route. I am getting ready to order/install all new speakers and most likely a Pioneer head unit with Apple car play

 

I have back roads but hit around 60-65 somewhat regularly. I think you will be fine, I've noticed depending on the song it can be huge and really feel it, or it can be subtle and it feels like a smaller sub. I also have a knob that lets me adjust on the fly which can make a pretty big difference as well. I also don't have the sub ability set as high (or low i should say) as it can go, as it breaks in I might push it a bit more.

Hopefully someone else out there with one can comment a little as well, I'd hate to steer you in a direction you ultimately didn't like. I know one guy on here wasn't happy with only one sub and ended up doing two. But most who have it seem happy, that includes reviews I've seen online webstores like crutchfield.

 

I will have a "bass knob" from my amp as well and when i use to use it it really worked on "weaker" songs or older rock, country music

 

If you aren't a big rap listener and more into country and rock types I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about. With rap I find that the songs with high levels of production sound great and the sub hits really hard, songs with crappy backroom production levels aren't as heavy feeling. Rock/Reggae have both sounded great, haven't done country yet.

 

I went with 2-10" subs and it sounds really good but if I had it to do over I would probably just have 1 with more air space and power.

 

Either way, clean setup! Nice job, and if you didn't do it yourself, good job finding a good shop!

 

If you can, get a 2 sub box and put 2 8"s. I have 1 12" and it sounds great and is very loud, but sometimes lacks a bit of definition that 2 8"s could put out.

 

I originally ordered a box from ine of the vendors in here but it was about .75" too wide. After argung with them for several days with them telling me "it's impossible, it must be your truck" I had them send me another one with proper dimensions, so of course they sent another that was exactly the same as the first. I had had enough of waiting so I just built it myself with the help of a friend who's a cabinet maker. We started with the boxed section that covers up the cab brace and pieced it together from there.

Which Skar subwoofer? Strongly considered their shallow 8" but the company's reviews are all over the map...price is right, though!

 

I looked into the model and I was actually mistaken. It is actually 600 Watts rms. SDR-12

 

Hmm, if the Comp R 8" that I ordered doesn't fit the bill, I might try the VD-8 because of the ridiculous excursion and small volume reqs.

 

Went with a sundown SD3-10 dual 2 ohm wired to 1 ohm at 500watts on a 5 channel Fosgate p1000x5. This sub will handle all music types with room to spare.

 

Did this in my Audi A4. A 10" Alpine Type S & JL Audio 500/1 is all that was needed. Keeps up with the Focal Utopias & K2 Powers in the doors running off a Twister 300/4 amp.

Trying to figure out if I can get a 10" Type S behind the seat of my dual cab now.

 

It looks like volume wise in a sealed box it only needs 0.54cf, however I think the mounting depth of 6 5/16 is where you will get in trouble.

You may have to have something custom made. I would check with Mr. Marv to see if he could fab you something up. If I remember right, I don’t think you have much more then 7” which is why most people use shallow mount subs Which have mounting depths around 4 1/2”

If you want to keep the black plastic storage bins and the black plastic seat back intact I think you are going to be limited to something like a 8" shallow mount sub.

I did the subaru tweeter and kicker speaker upgrades myself then used an installer for a kicker key amp (door speakers), a jl audio 500 watt amp (sub), and jl 8" micro sub install. Later I added a bass knob which in my opinion is needed.
