It disables the side air bags so they don't go off during rough off roading.

It turns off the side airbags that are set to inflate if you roll the truck. You turn it off so it doesn't inflate accidently when wheelin.

(It should be in the manual too, check the page that describes what all the buttons are for).

RSCA = Roll Stability Control Assist.... The system is designed to assist you in the event that you understeer or oversteer, it will help you maintain control of the car, and in the direction the wheels are pointing. Its part of the Traction Control System.
You are supposed to turn it off if you go Off-Roading. This way the sideairbags turn off and you can do more extreme 4 wheeling.
    Hope it helps...

    from toyota.com glossary......

RSCA Side Curtain Airbags have a roll-sensing deployment feature that will inflate the curtain airbags at severe tilt angles, or in a roll condition.

You're getting VSC [Vehicle Stability Control] mixed up with the RSCA [Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags].

Press and hold the button until the indicator lights up on the dash, and it disables the system so that the airbags don't deploy if you just lean your truck over offroad. That way the few scratches or dents you get from leaning your truck over don't turn into hundreds or thousands of dollars of airbag and interior trim replacement.

RSCA is strictly roll-side curtain airbags. nothing to do w/ traction or offroading, aside from keeping the RSCAs from going off under an extreme side angle

the one down there resets the TPMS. the onw the OP is taking about is on the left of the steering wheel in that area and actually has "RSCA" on it. 09+s have roll-side curtain airbags standard. were optional pre 09

Not all tacomas have the side curtain airbags, if you don't have the switch you probably don't have the airbags

it is down on the lower left side of the dash, its right by the mirror adjuster 2 blank buttons and then the RSCA button. I will check to see if it has the curtain air bags.
