Roof Rack Design and Fabrication Weekend 5-6 Progress ;)

I’ve thought about the attachment option too. Perhaps that’s the best route. Gobi says they’ll build me one with a longer backside, but I’m still debating. Those things are tanks, but a little bulky and did make a little bit of noise. I’m not real keen on putting the fairing right up against the paint, even with the rubber pad.

I’m going to hang out for the final production version and final edits.

 

I noticed mention of a bed rack. Be sure you leave room for chassis flex between the two racks and the roof if you plan on running them close.

What's the fin even for, satellite radio? If so, maybe I should just have it deleted like my am/fm antenna...

 

This. I actually had to explain chassis flex to someone who wanted to attach his rear bumper to his sliders for side protection...

 

Box chassis you are fine but with these C- channel frames they will get all out of shape.

 

I chopped mine in half, filled with epoxy, sanded, and painted. Now my RTT is about 1.75" from the cab to keep it flush and reduce drag.

 

I have a prinsu and dont notice a 1 mpg loss till i hit 70 mph. Just like adding all these mounts for attachments im supprised no one sells mpg boards - aluminum plate or HDPE boards to smooth the roof up and limit all the turbulence across the top. I've been planning to buy a 1/4" thk. aluminium plate and cut 3 panels across to adjust boxes or maxtrax placement.

 

I'm just wondering if it can be completely deleted. I don't have GPS in my truck, or use satellite radio. At most the weather thing works at home and no where else. Pretty useless IMO.

 

There is a tutorial online that someone uses another oem lower profile shark fin.

It is a pain the ass to try and drop the head liner fyi.

It would be nice have a 3D printed delete, maybe @mesojdm could make one....

The more I look at these pictures, the more I’m leaning towards this over the Prinsu. Hoping the price tag doesn’t provide sticker shock.

 

Production starts on March 1st. 20 in the first production run to see how it settles into the industry. As of now I expect them to ship out of our facility before Marsh 15th. The first production run will take longer than when we are in high gear because this is the part where we sort out packaging, large quantity with our powder coat guy, etc....All the tool paths are set and all the raw goods are here. The target to market is $999 with the armor sides in primer and ready for you to paint. If we paint them (still working out the logistics of this) it's going to add about $145.00 to the cost. I am more concerned with shipping painted pieces than I am anything else. Looking from the alternative perspective of you painting them yourself....no damage in shipping and the readily available Toyota OEM color code paint kits are available on Amazon for about $60.00. The only one that I have tested that I had an issue with was the Quicksand. The Inferno, the white, the Grey and the Silver have been spot on for color. I think the key is to offer both choices and let the guy buying it decide. Some people may live in an apartment, etc....where spraying their own parts just isn't something that can happen.

 

Just answered that one below but the short answer is $999 shipped to your door in CONUS/lower 48. with all the major parts powder coated and the exterior armor sides in primer ready for paint/wrap. An additional $145.00 for us to spray them. The catch on in house painting is this: Painting to Toyota code number is the only way I can offer it. We have seen slight variations in the OEM colors up close when painting other parts. End users final decision.

 

Really solid product and design. I personally will have to pass with the price point. Good luck on this venture! It is always great to see the products come alive through TW.

 

And I probably should have clarified. That is with one MaxTRax mount plate (pins not included), one Rotopax Plate (turn lock not included) and one axe/shovel mounting bracket (quickfist 1.75-2.25 pair included). All the brackets and mounts are power coated black as well.

The rack by itself, sides, side armor ready for paint, and bars, mounts and hardware is $799 shipped. Sorry dude I'm tired. Lol
