Me going airborne by a couple inches I believe Reading around it’s very common for people who drive fast in the desert. @jberry813 doesnt even bother fixing the cracks so that’s why I’m not in any rush.

Can you replace the whole area? Could you grab a more zoomed out photo of the surrounding area.

 

Can you form some sheet metal in that approximate shape and would it in? Would need to be thin I guess

 

Not easily, it’s all formed sheet metal. And this is the best pic I have without getting off my ass.

Best I think I could do is cut out a section and weld in a new piece but it’d be hard to form thicker stuff.

 

Is that a body mount? Am I looking at the inside of the fender well? Passenger side?

 

That’s the radiator bushing. It’s the sheet metal directly below the passenger side headlight.

 

The bucket for the coilover is reinforced to the frame yeah, I wonder what's actually putting lateral force on that to make it pull out like that. Could you put a bar/tube and weld it from the bolt point there on the right (between the bolts) and tie in in somewhere on the left? Should alleviate the issue. Either that or make something else start tearing.
Wish I could look at it in person. Could probably figure something out. For now, I'd guess your welded band-aid idea would work. I just think it'll just mitigate the damage to an un-reinforced portion instead, leading to an eventual patchwork quilt of metal.

 

Yeah that’s my fear as well is that it’ll just move the crack somewhere else.

If you could get one of these, then fab up a custom piece, you could then mirror it and reinforce both sides. Might alleviate problems for a lot of owners. Apparently they are the same on the 2016s too.

 

Drill a hole at the end of the crack it'll stop it.

 

I did that with the last one. Unfortunately an entire new crack formed right next to the old one.
