Minimalist Key Fob Case

Trying to take a poll...how many people have used the slim key that's built into the Key fob?
Would you be opposed to loosing it if it netted you a smaller and thinner key fob case?

Myself.. I have never used it once. Which got me thinking about making a minimalist fob.
I guess you could always use one of those magnetic hide-a-key under the truck




With standard keyring or road soda titanium insert

This concept is now a reality(with the help and input of all you guys)
A ~25% Smaller than stock Keyfob Mod. Added benefit... a Stainless steel bottle opener.

I have never used mine and would love the idea of a slimmer one that I could carry on me somewhere instead of hiding it in the back of my truck under the bed mat when I go snowboarding or mountainbiking or what not

 

One of the issues people will run into, is on the 2017+ trucks, the hidden key works the tailgate. I suppose you could just leave that key in the glove box.

 

It wouldn’t be as small as say the Lexus credit card. But it’s def smaller than OEM

I've contemplated installing one, especially with the plug and play wiring kits now being offered... but given the infrequency of which I access the bed, it would just add wear to my locking mechanism for no real gain.

 

True. I use mine all the time getting stuff in and out of the bed. One of my favorite mods

Please just make the part that holds the key ring robust. That part always breaks.

Smaller is always better. I use my key to lock my tailgate tho so I'm torn. If I left the key inside the truck and my fob battery died I feel like I'd be up shits Creek. Anyone killed their fob battery yet?

I thought about making my own credit card...but FCC, Yada yada...

 

Installing my pop n lock tomorrow and after that i don’t see me needing the key again.

 

Never used my key once since purchase in Oct 2015.

 

I saw this and I thought to myself why not just use the normal key? and then I remembered most here don't have one. It would annoy the shit out of me to have to pop that little key out every time I locked my tailgate.

 

I got a normal key with my 2017 truck too. 2 fobs with hidden keys and 1 normal key.

 

Maybe make one where the smaller metal key from the Lexus card remote fits in?

 

You can wire it so it only unlocks when you unlock all doors. That way you wouldn't pop it every time you open driver door.

 

Yeah, but you don't carry the fob and the key around, do you?

 

I could, except I wired my passenger door handle as a "smart" handle, so I need all doors to unlock at the same time for that to function properly. I also can't stand not having all the doors unlock at the same time (I have passengers quite frequently).
