After replacing the passenger side cv shaft I have a grinding noise in 4 wheel drive. The grinding gets worse while I speed up but goes away slightly after letting up on the gas. There is no grinding noise in 2wd. The grinding noise is coming from what sounds like the front diff area. I’ve taken both driver and passenger side apart multiple times to try and figure out where it’s coming from but no luck. Any ideas on what it might be and where it’s coming from?

did you accidentally forget to pull off the old dust cover (thus effectively doubling up your dust covers?) could be what's grinding?

Did you check the CV for quality control by putting into 4wd in a grassy field and doing a full lock turn each way while moving to listen for clicking?

Are you sure the cv seated all the way? They take some pressure to get in because of the clips on the shaft.

Yes it is seated all the way and the old dust cover was removed before I installed the new shaft.

Yes I did both hard left and hard right turns in hi 4 and low 4. No clicking noises just a grinding sound like metal on metal.

can you get all four wheels in the air with jack stands and see if you can locate it?

I was going to say what’s already been said about the shaft not being seated but...

Just to be clear, there was no noise while the truck was in 4wd before you replaced the CV shaft? When I had to fix my front axle because I heard a metal to metal noise, it was the bearing behind the driveshaft yoke on the front diff.

If I remember correctly there is two different types of CV's, one for ADD and one for manual hubs. I am not sure if you could've even used the wrong CV shaft, because the ADD and manual hub CV shafts have a different amount of splines, but it is the only thing I can think of currently.

This what I was thinking too but I figured it would be too obvious to screw it up. Plus both wheels are getting power.
