The lady is coming over tonight so I will have to finish the final coats in the morning. Super happy with it though.

Painting is so rewarding but waiting for it to dry (especially in the cold) blows.

Yeah, it’s rough. I should have waited longer between coats but I was eager to get as much as I could done tonight so I can let it cure all day tomorrow and mount it Sunday.

Going to put some reinforcements on the sides to support the ramp (hypontenous portion) and figure out some brackets to prevent tipping. Then just inspect it all to make sure I didn’t miss any weeds.

Some general information to put out there for peeps,

Any hot rolled tubing or DOM tubing or steel with the black oxide coating should be sandblasted , flapwheeled or wirebrushed as etching does not eat through it.
And paint/primer does not stick the best to it.

Spray and wipe it down with acetone or any other paint prep cleaner.
Blow off with and air gun.
Apply metal prep etching and wipe down.
Apply two coats of Zinc Chromate primer
Apply two coats of Cold Galvanizing spray paint.
Then do your regular primer and top coat(s). (Two part Urethane or Epoxy are the most durable but require a spray gun.)

Zinc Chromate primer is used a lot in Aerospace and Shipbuilding, the Zinc acts as an Anode to prevent the steel from oxidizing, the Chromate is essentially a hard sealer (same thing on chrome bumpers, it's the nickle on bumpers that is silver, chrome is actually clear on the bumper like a varnish).
Cold galvanizing spray paint adds more layers of Zinc, a scratch down to bare metal will also expose more zinc into that area that will stop steel from corroding and spreading.

One thing to remember with bedliner is it will peel off when rubbed hard on stuff, (ask people that put it on bottom of their sliders).

I've seen all available at Canadian tire. Except the Urethane and Epoxy paints, those you get from Aircraft or Bodyshop suppliers and make sure you wear a respirator LOL.

As a side note I've noticed that when using rattle cans to paint stuff, the paint for car wheels and for farm equipment seems to be a little tougher than the "average brands".

And if you want your truck to never rust again look into using a product called ACF-50 (like an oil spray but WAY better) and Fluid Flim in high water spray areas. Tech and SA at the dealership commented that the underside of my truck looks newer and cleaner than the ones coming off the delivery truck from the factory, and mine is a '17. ;)

Huh, that’s a lot of information. Hopefully the work I did will hold up but if not, I’ll do it again with better technique and materials.

Oh it will look sexy for years to come. It's a truck. And that steel is thick.
So if you don't do some touch ups for 5 years and never wash or wax it... you may get some deep surface pitting and have to sandblast it and use a high fill primer if you wanted it baby smooth again. LOL

    Don’t care about smooth:rofl:
Just don’t want it to rust. Trail damage is one thing, I can just touch up. Really don’t care about how it looks, black is black no matter how bumpy and scuffed up it is
