To those who are not sure about a new head unit

I have always been a stock stereo kinda guy and thought they sounded fine. But I replaced my stock stereo with an eclipse avn2210p so I can have navigation and ipod connectivity. The sound quality was like night and day I was shocked at how restrictive the stock stereo was as far as quality of sound. If you are on the fence of changing your head unit do it. You can always go back if you don't like it but you will be amazed at the sound quality.

ETA: got it on ebay for $155 with the nav maps included.

 

I like the idea of being able to snap your portable GPS into/out of the unit

 

What for?, I have never understood why people have portable navis.

 

I'm the opposite, I don't understand why people have it built into their dash... if you ever take another vehicle, ATV, bicycle, etc, that in-dash unit is useless.

or you can just use the one you probably already have on your telephone... seems fairly portable

 

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your new HU. A new head unit will probably produce the most noticeable difference in upgrading a stock system because there will be more power going to the speakers, regardless if they are factory or aftermarket. But you'll notice a bigger improvement if you add aftermarket speakers, a sub and an amp to that system. Get rid of everything stock!

 

Kenwood has an underseat sub that works well. It's not going to blast your neighbors, but it adds a good low note.
I put in Pioneer's double DIN single cd player. It has bluetooth and a usb/ipod connector on the back. I put a 32GB flash drive on it. The only thing I don't like is that the face is easily scratched. Sound it good!

 

The one on my blackberry sucks, my Garmin is much nicer.

If you want a real improvement replace the crap stock door speakers. The Toyota ones are hideous and they are light as a feather. Even mid quality aftermarkets are a hugr difference.

 

yeah i noticed with my new one the stock door speakers are not that great :/

 

hmmm... considering you can add garmin to you bb...
i have telenav on my bb, works great...
even the free google maps works fine...
there are many other ones you can add as well.

 

I'm stayin with the sucky oem because no one will care enuff to break in to steal it.

 

ya, that's the downside is worrying about that. especially with the 2nd gen stereo placement being way at the top of the dash screaming for people to look at it.

My bb thru a t-mobile affiliate the gps is hosed and they don't support it so I can't use it. Tried the google maps and it gets me within 500 yard range. I belive its only going off the cell towers to get me close and not the gps itself.

 

that's a bummer. need to get one that the gps works on. i have mine with tmo as well with no problems.
