I was about to go to sleep, looked outside and noticed the fuel door open. Walked out side and saw the gas cap was off. I don't think any gas was taken but I can only guess that someone tried.

This is my first Tacoma. I was surprised when I bought it that there was no locking fuel door.

Do you have any enemies? My fear would be that someone could have contaminated your gas instead of steal it.

Since plastic gas tanks are the norm, most gas thieves are just drilling holes in the bottoms of tanks and stealing it that way. To much trouble trying to siphon gas through the filler neck on modern vehicles which usually have a anti-rollover valve that prevents hoses from ever touching gas.

Either you got a stupid gas thief or somebody was intending to do some harm.

Yeah, well when oil peaked at $145 a barrel in 2008 and gas was through the roof, get educated pretty quick when half your neighbors and yourself come out one morning to find your tank empty and hole drilled in the bottom of it.

Do not have to be a criminal to learn how criminals work.

Someone got about 15 gallons out of my old dodge back around 2009, during the recession. I was laid off from my good job and was working as laborer and barely making ends meet. I was living in a sketchy apartment with 2 sets of even sketchier tweaker neighbors. I got paid on friday and always filled up for the week as soon as I got paid. Saturday morning I had half a tank. Got a locking cap that day. No more problems.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Sometime that's not enough distance, depending on how bad you pissed them off.

Locking fuel door... it's not a truck if it has one... I don't know what my point is.

No, I was already at about 1/4 tank. Seems to still be in the same place. All I can think of is they took very little or none at all.
