Vinyl isn't too bad, just very tedious. I had the same issue as @btbowie when cutting the hole for the shifter. Cut too much and the edge wasn't under the shifter surround. Same happened with a couple of the bolt holes. Oh well. I love the vinyl in my truck. So much easier to deal with and I don't worry about screwing up new carpet. Got mine from Rock Auto. It's ACC stuff so good quality AFAIK. You can see my install here - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-1999-taco-turd-build.575855/page-2#post-19186542

The only other option if you don't want vinyl or carpet would be to bedline the floor. It's also tedious to do if you do it yourself or expensive if you go with LineX or something like that. But it's by far the easiest to care for and keep clean.

It lost coolant. I got it swapped today and I can't find anything that shows a hole or anything .but it was leaking somewhere pretty good at least that day. Only maybe a gallon came out of the old radiator and I poured in over twice that back into the engine and radiator.

Far as I can tell a tube was leaking. As it leaked the motor couldn't stay cool and then thing just got hotter and hotter and then it blew out under pressure.

I'd still look to replace yours. You don't want any cracks in it. That's why I went for this one originally as it's all aluminum so I figured it would last longer instead of the plastic tanks and fittings always cracking.

    Can't win..

Got my hood refinished this week at a local Mom and Pop body shop in San Diego. Had a lot of sun damage, even rusting on a couple spots. Finally got around to having it restored. Well, there goes my tax refund....worth every dime.

Probably a pin hole leak that doesn't show up unless you pressurize it. Maybe get it pressure tested before calling it bad and trying to get Champion to replace it, since they aren't responding.

Could it have been a bad seal between a hose and spigot.

Not sure I can. Live in a pretty rural area. Don't want to drive 50 miles just for that.

Yeah, I’ve had the champion on back Order for a few weeks now. Ships next week. But the “leak” is very minimal. Which is good. Still sucks a $200.00 OEM won’t last a full year. The originals last way longer for some reason. Guess they switched manufacturers and downgraded on quality.

So made some progress after work last night.

Had to situate the truck in the garage, so I can work with the door down if it starts to rain sideways again.

    Removed the 2wd spindles.

And this little guy found his new home.

Ok so question. While I'm in here, should I lose the sway bar or keep it? Will losing it have a big negative impact on road manners? I run 5100s with ToyTec 620#s (for now). In terms of front end wieght, it'll be the Trail Gear, Warn 8000#, and I also run 2 Optima yellow tops in the engine compartment.

Thing is, I have at least an hour of highway driving every day.

Sway bar = keep it? lose it?

Lose it. I have the the same front shocks and springs right now and ditched the sway bar. Ride is much better on the road without it and there is a very minimal amount of more sway through corners. Just be aware of it and you are fine. I have a new plate bumper coming and will add a winch at some point after that. My sway bar is never going back on the truck.

I would keep it, but just for now. Finish your 4x4 conversion and drive it. Make sure everything is OK. Then take it off. If you take it off now, and it drives funky you won't know if it's something up with the 4x4 conversion or the lack of sway bar. Keep the number of variables down. If I have several changes to make to my truck I like to make one, then make sure everything is OK, before making another one. Just in case something isn't right it's easier to track down the problem.

Disagree. The lack of the sway bar wouldn't mask any issues. In fact, I think it would actually reveal them faster. With no sway bar, the suspension can actually function properly, allowing each side to move the way it's supposed to.
