I like that they hardly ever update it. The Model T was basically the same for 20 years. The long production run allowed them to reduce the cost and make the car a lot more affordable.

You’re bugging. Everything is more expensive over time. Look at a pack of gum, a house, a pair of shoes or piece of Sheetrock.

Ridgeline coming with front wheel drive. Better watch out, it'll be real competition now...

When the dealership was trying to sell me an extended warranty, they mentioned the average vehicle is constructed some 18,000 parts. Imagine if you tried to build your own vehicle by ordering each part through Amazon, what are the chances you would receive no defective parts?

Once you factor in the complexies of producing on a mass scale, and putting all those parts together, it truely is a wonder there are as few issues as there are.

As for historical claims on quality suffering in recent times, only someone who has spent very little time on this mortal coil could believe such an absurd notion. Anyone who lived through 80s know things used to be worse. The running joke in the movie Robocop with the 6000 SUX and its quality of construction wasn't that far of reality.

    https://youtu.be/Y6v_nrf9nFQ

I think the myth of Japanese quality is overblown, probably a result of comparing them to US autos during the 80s. Not a very high bar to measure up to at that point.

But here's the thing; your paying for a vehicle worth way more than the sum of its parts. Your mostly paying for the robotics, the quality control, the professional labour and tools used to assemble, etc.

It better damn work for a good while with what they charge for new vehicles these days.

Ridgeline is not a Truck in the eyes of 95% of current Truck owners. Truck owners don't even have Ridgeline on their radar....nor will they ever as long as it looks like an ordinary SUV that had bad surgery.

So, if you trust this guy you must believe Ridgelines are trucks. He says they are right in the title.

Buddy uses the green tire cleaner at the car wash on his new Tundra's paint. Told me he has used it for years on all his trucks/SUV's.

Even though I don’t like Ridgelines, it likely fits the Oxford dictionary description of a “truck” more so than a passenger car. It’s Honda’s truck, and that’s fine.

I was surprised he called Honda out for having poor quality automatic transmissions. I didn’t know that was a weak point for them.

It's been decades that Honda Odyssey (and some Accord) suffer from transmission issues. Friends of mine as well as my brother had to have tranny rebuilt by Honda.

I had a '13 Ridgeline for 5 years. As far as day to day driving, it was equal if not better than my Tacoma. On light snow and ice, it was considerably better. My personal reliability scale I would call them equal. Off road the Toyota wins without contest. In my worthless opinion 95% of people would be just fine in a Ridgeline. Other than off road, it all comes down to looks. And that one is not even in the same ballpark.
