    Morning Everyone,

A guy in my Reserve unit told me this was THE Taco forum.

So I just joined - hoping to learn as much as I can about the 16 TRD 4x4 Off-road I just burped bought.

My main concern right now is whether or not I can safely trailer my 14.5’ Jon boat from Northern Virginia to NJ and back without chewing up my transmission.

    Peace!

Assuming this a lightweight, aluminum jon boat, I don't think you have any reason for concern. Enjoy the new rig.

Thank you Luke812. I appreciate the reply. I’m a little paranoid I guess, because my 12’ Outback was rated for 1500 lbs. After my first trip to NJ with the same boat, the transmission was destroyed.

Although my “new” 16 Taco doesn’t have the tow package, I reckon I’ll use the ECT and keep it out of 6th gear.

welcome to TW! AT or MT ? yes DO NOT use 6th gear when towing for either. If AT use S-mode and it will limit upshift to 5th. I tow a popup camper. Even when loaded and bed full of stuff (Beer) all is good. Enjoy.

I would say find a scale near you and weigh the boat and trailer if you dont know and look up how much your truck is able safely to tow without the tow package .

Scales sound like a good idea. I’ve got an automatic tranny.

Does anyone know of a reputable 4x4 shop in northern Virginia?

Lamenting the end of waterfowl season. Gonna take the Grey Ghost out to the Massanutten section of the National Forest today. My two young bucks want to engage the rear locker like Shawno on 4-Wheel Drive Action.
