Quick Question Regarding Warranty

I'm interested in installing fog lights in my Tacoma 2007 Access Cab PreRunner I4. I dislike the negative space place holder that's in those spots right now.
I was wondering if that voids my warranty?
Can anyone refer me to a page where this is dicussed and what do's and don't's to not void warranty?

"One more thing I will add to the posting I have made about the fog lights I installed on my truck and the switch I am going to install when it arrives. I looked at the www.toyotausa.com and called the technical support number shown on that web site. The person I talked to told me that if my truck did not come with factory installed fog lights it was not wired for them. If I added fog lights to my truck my warrenty would be canceled. I next called two dealers and both told me the same thing about the wireing and warrenty. I wanted to get fog lights installed bad enough that I decided to continue my search. As I mentioned before I found them at a Advance Store and while the lens might not be a exact copy otherwise they look the same and installed the same way as the factory lights did. When I was looking at a Tacoma that had factory installed fog lights I noticed the wire that attached them. I also noticed the truck had a switch on the dash that according to my book was for the fog lights. I looked under my trucks fender wells while I was removing the plugs and installing the fog lights and saw a coiled wire under the fender well, one on each side. I took this lose and to my amazement the plug was exactly like the one I had seen on the factory installation. They plugged right into the plug on the fog lights I had just installed. Next when I removed the plug on the dash which was where the book shows a fog light switch there is a plug which according to a Toyota mechanic is for the fog lights. He suggested I get a 2007 factory switch and I could tell which wire went to the switch and plug it in. He said I might need to put in a fuse. While I was disappointed in the "service" I have received for the two Toyota dealers I have talked to as well as the factory technician I am glad I continued my search and found the lights and switch. As a matter of interest I think many of the prices on the web site http://www.toyota-parts-dealer.com/ are much more reasonable than the prices I was given at both dealerships. For example the local dealer wanted $54.95 plus tax ($5.36) while the on line store offers the same switch for $35.48 plus shipping. It seems to me that Toyota is cutting their own throat by not offering individual items as a option and by allowing their dealers to price gouge individuals who have bought their vehicles. My total cost in parts is about $235. For factory fog lights and switch from a dealer in Richmond, VA I was quoted $354 for the factory fog lights and $45 for the factory switch, a total of $399. Both local dealers in Tennessee told me the fog lights were not available from Toyota. The dealer in my home town said he had many customers ever day wanting to install fog lights and he told them it was impossible. If anyone has any questions I might be able to answer please just email me and I will try to answer ASAP."

Is the bold statement true? The Warranty would be cancel I just ordered fog lights for my PreRunner I4 Toyota Tacoma 07 Access cab :'(

Fortunately, this is NOT TRUE. They have to prove that something you did or had done caused the damage that your warranty would cover.

 

....and as far as dealers "gouging" customers, they ALL do this. Nothing new here.... But the thing you have to remember is this....you are comparing the cost of aftermarket parts to factory parts. And while sometimes the factory and aftermarket parts are made by the same company, they may not always be of equal quality. And, as Mark said, Toyota cannot void your warranty simply for installing fog lights...they would have to prove that you foglight installation was the cause for whatever failure you're having. And the other thing is that they want to "scare" you into buying Toyota parts....

 

Like removing the secondary air filter?

 

Um...yeah. But we're not going to go there....ahem....Mark......

Just teasing Mark......I don't know why Toyota felt the need for a secondary air filter, but I guess their engineers thought it important enough....and then enthusiasts feel it unimportant enough to remove it. I've never owned another vehicle that had two filters like that, so I don't think you're going to have a problem.....BTW, I think most of your threads are great, esp the DIY's. Would love to do the stereo upgrade, but have to have the money to do it. Right now, even if I had the extra coin, I have more important things to spend it on...

 

Please note that my DIY's are getting cheaper and cheaper as I run out of money.

Too bad you don't have a V6...then we could start the "Improved Gas Mileage" DIY thread.....this being accomplished by taking a 2 inch holesaw and cutting holes through the tailgate for better airflow..now that would be really inexpensive!

 

I took this from TW and TTORA about this secondary filter stuff (Carbon trap). All I know is that it seems more psychological than evidenciary to me. There was no evidence after 16 pages except for this. Everything else was conjecture and expectations. The guy that posted this is the mastermind behind URD.

For all those claming they feel an extra 'kick' when they remove the secondary filter, here's a post copied from Gadget of URD fame over on TTORA. Somebody mention something about proof?

I have tried and dyno tested many different airbox mods on the 1GR hoping to find the simple free HP we had on the 5VZ.

I am sorry to tell you all that none of those things work at all on the new 1GR. Anything you do pre filter makes no difference. Also removing the carbon trap makes no differnce. Tube on or off makes no difference. Extra holes make no differnece.

I have something in the works that looks promissing, but it will not be suitable for people that off road their truck and drive through deep water.
