Subaru BRAT (Bi-drive Recreational All Terrain)

One of those in good condition is worth a pretty penny.

Can be made into a serious trail rig (they have a dual range transfer case)

The rear death seats, er, jump seats, were a way to avoid the Chicken Tax

Drop a WRX STi engine in it and YeeeeeeHaaawwwwww!

Umm yeah, only older that that one. 1979, bought new. Drove it to my job 26 miles one way, chased coyotes on days off, tough little truck. Unibody, salt, mud, and time played havoc with it. Much welding in new metal made it go farther, and I said I would drive it til it broke in two. But a high school kid bought it, 3 years ago, for way more than it was worth. He drove it for a year, but let it run out of oil and threw a rod. Bye bye old friend. :(

    Buddy of mine had one.

One of the coolest things was the Cyclops headlight hidden behind the Subaru emblem on the grille.

If I knew then what I know now I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

My older sister had one of these in the early 80’s. Riding in the back was a blast!

Front wheel drive, pull the lever and 4 wheel drive! Get high centered in a drift? 2 minutes with scoop shovel and back it out.

Well now I'm going to be cursing you guys under my breath as I have found myself perusing for sale ads for a Subaru BRAT.

    :D :)

Guess I'll need to peruse reasonable divorce attorneys while I'm at it.

I had the 2 door car version of that Subaru. It - was - the
BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT EVER! :brianr::brianr::brianr:

Even by the standard of the day it was crap. Just seeing pictures gives me PTSD. Like when it would randomly die in rush hour traffic, or refuse to start when I needed to be somewhere.

Don't do it! Life is worth living and owning an old Subaru will make you want to kill yourself.
