Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

Which shell are you running? I like the size of the windoors on that one.

 

@RedBeard1 It is the ARE V series. I have the windoors option with sliding window and screen in them.

Adjustable coils up front 2.25” of lift, rear is sumo springs and 1/2” toytec spacer. Will be switching to OME medium full leaf pack next month. Stock wheels plasti-dipped 2 years ago.

Glad to help! One word of caution: I haven't fully stuffed them yet, so I don't know how they'll do in all situations. However, there's definitely no rubbing during normal driving, pot holes, etc.

 

I have a 3" lift on mine. I should be ok with stuffing issues lol

 

What about the Toyo open country rt's? Anyone running those?

 

Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific 255 tire for a stock OR that is my DD in New England? Lots of snow, ice, water on my commute and logging roads on weekends. No rock crawling or anything like that.

I guess I’m looking for looks, reliability, and relative light weight for reduced hit to MPG.

Thanks for any recommendations, I’ve never bought aftermarket tires before.

 

What is this seat mod?

 

Place 1/2 to 1”spacer under the rear seat track mounts. Raises rear of seat. Someone sells spacers and new bolts in the for sale 3G section on here.

Don’t get an e rated tire (st maxx). They are great for what you would be doing but if your concerned about MPG, stay away from it.

 

Selection of Non-E 255 is pretty limited is it not?

 

Typically the 255 size is mostly mud tires. I would look at the Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX. I know a few guys running them and no complaints other then they gum up more than a mud tire. It's a more aggressive all terrain so MPG should be slightly better than a full blown mud tire. Traction on compact snow and ice should be OK. Most of your 255/85/16 (assuming you have stock 16" wheels) are going to be in the 55lbs to 60lbs range so your if your concerned about MPG, your going to need to look at rolling resistance. I think Goodyear has a "street" tire in that size, but it might be for trailers, I'm not sure.

 

I was looking into that tire, the ST, but it looks REALLY skinny in person. Nice and light though, 47 lbs. I heard rumors it's being discontinued.
