Best leaf spring???

I current have OME Dakar EL095R with extended travel adjustable king rear shocks. Also have a high clearance bumper and no other weight in the rear. I have the Kings set to their softest setting and I find the leafs incredibly stiff.

I don’t tow, rarely load the bed with camping gear etc.

Any other suggestions? Take a leaf out?

Did look through the forum search feature and found others discussing the idea but never going through with it.

 

I'm running the EL096R and they're already mustaching (what I like to refer to as "bowing"). High clearance rear and rear drawers. With the ADS triple bypasses, they're nice and smooth. Try increasing the dampening and decreasing the rebound?

 

Mine look like capital W's with only about 400# in the bed. I can't wait to see what they do once I load them up.

 

Ha, yep, same here. When the Hammer Hangers from Archive Garage show up, hopefully things will improve. If not, I'll go Deaver.

 

Deaver was my next step. My leafs only have about 1000 miles on them though.

 

I've got about 25k on mine. Much, much better than AllPro "Expedition" leaves, that's for sure. My first set damn near broke and they were terrible to deal with.

 

I just installed icon rxt’s in setup 2. They ride amazingly better/more plush than stock. Not harsh in the least. There’s 3 spring rate options you can swap between for your preference...all included. I’ve never had Dakar’s to compare to.

 

Are you running any weight on them?

 

Unfortunately my King only has compression, which is already backed all the way off.

 

Which Deavers did you go with?

 

None yet, I'm still running the OME EL096Rs.

 

Take leaf out (3rd from top) and put 60lbs of bug-out gear/tools/whatever in the back. Good to go.

I got the OME EMU's and are very happy with how they feel compared to stock.

 

Run um with weight. When I drive daily I run 150 pounds of dumbells in the bed, literally. Lol. I have a bed cover 50 pounds, 30 pound cooler, bed rack 70 pounds, rotopax and maxtrax 35 pounds. Bin of tools 50 pounds. Without the dumbells I'd be around 230 pounds so 150 pounds of weights helps smoothen it out. When I go camping/fishing I usually load up the bed with close to 500 pounds so that's why I run EL096s

 

EL096R on mine. They ride and carry the load just like every other set of OME springs I’ve run. I have probably put 6-700k miles on OME suspension systems they hold up to all kinds of abuse. If the EL096R leaves are not up to the task you can always go with the Hilux EL091R leaf packs.



I am guessing that some people don’t realize that OME leaf springs are supposed to have the “mustache” shape to them. They are flattened in the center for the spring seat. That look is not a sign of fatigue it is designed that way to prevent breakage. Unlike most leaf springs on the market OME springs are designed to handle being negative arched when flexed.

 

I have allpro sliders, an A.R.E Overland camper shell, rubber bed mat and maybe 70 pounds of gear in truck/bed. Was too much for stock springs. Tried sumo springs and rode on them all the time...way worse ride than overloaded stock springs. Now it’s amazing in comparison to either of those scenarios.

If you have no weight at all, keep the rxts in the setup they come in when shipped. Just add some shims and you’d be good to go.

 

I filled up my large cooler with water and additional 60lbs of wood and I didn’t notice too much change. Maybe the shocks are stiffening up the ride as well.

I think I may just pull the third leaf and see how it goes.

 

I believe OEM King's are limited to 1.5" lift.

Try setting the front soft and the rear firm; and vice versa. Might have some competing suspension frequencies.

 

Actually called King about this and this is the correct shock. I was worried about the lift too. Showing 4.25 of shock so that’s perfect according to the tech.

Does anyone run Deavers right now?
