“Correct” may be a matter of opinion, but...

2nd gen 4x4 with 31.5”-32” size tire, what is a good amount of lift? Obviously these tires will fit stock, but I do not want the stuffed tire look. At first I thought do it right and go with 5100, ome 884 and progressive aal for a 2” lift or so. But do I really even need to do that? I know blocks are not the best but what about for a very small lift? Like 1” or so? This would be for mostly street and light off roading. So the options are...

Small 1” front and rear block lift.

    Or

A real shock, spring and aal lift.

This is for 265/70/17 tires. Thanks

You’ll likely get responses all over the map because it really comes down to personal opinion. Personally, I run a 2.5” lift with the headstrong coils and 5100’s with a deaver AAL in the back on 265/70/17’s.It looks ok, but if I didn’t tow a 4500# boat, I’d be going with a beefier tire.

It really is a matter of opinion, but that’s ok. I am in the same boat as you. Towing a 4K car trailer so I don’t want to go too much more than +1 tire size. Don’t want the stuffed look so I know I want a lift. Just not sure if I want a cheapie or a real 2-3” lift.

    Like, so many.
When you start lifting with 265 tires, it throws the aesthetics off.

I somewhat agree. I’m putting a 3” in the front and 2” rear lift on in the coming weeks and I hope it doesn’t look too odd. I’m putting 285/75/16’s on it but that’s probably in a month

I think that'll look great with 285s. You gonna do the CMC?

I run 5100s+885s, 265/75/16s I honestly liked the look better when the front wasn't lifted. I think 265s look too small but that's just me

Here's mine with FX pros and 265/75 16s. I have the billstein 5100/OME 888 setup on the front, Dakar mediums on back all purchased from Headstrong Off-Road. Look too goofy? I'm afraid a 285 won't work with my JBA UCA's is why I didn't go that route.MVIMG_20190127_155119.jpg

2-3” seems to be the sweet spot. All these trucks look great. It’s enough to know it’s not stock. I think if I had a third gen, I would just go with the 1” spacer lift. The 2nd gen (being lower) needs an actual 2”+ spring lift to get the same look.

Personally, I don't mind the look of 265/70/17's on stock suspension. That being said, I am going to lift about 2 inch with Fox coil-overs but that is more me wanting to upgrade the suspension then needing to change the look.

Agreed third gen looks better with 31.5" tires stock. 2nd gen looks a little stuffed to me...

If you like the way the truck rides now then just do a basic 5100 kit from headstrong: https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p452/HS_Coil/Bilstein_5100_kit.html

That would give you a little better ride and the extra lift without getting into a ton of suspension and price. Your idea with the small lift is possible but just going for the real deal will always be a better bet. Even if you only get the shocks and hold off on springs, you would still have a better time then with spacers IMO.

The more I think I about it the 885s seem about right.

I am adding approximately 300lbs though most of it is in the middle and rear. 3 leaf 1.5" AALs will be needed for the rear and plan to use 5100s all the way around. No winch or steel bumper planned.
Rear weight: Approximately 200lbs (A.R.E. Shell approximately 175lbs. Bed mat weighs 32lbs)

    Mid Weight: Sliders weigh 90lbs

Since my tires are 265/70 17s I'm hoping for 1.5"- 1.75" lift using the 885s with the 5100s set at 0 as recommended. Might use a 1/4" spacer for the Taco lean.

Should look about right. Headstrong's lift guide lists 1.75" for the 885s and if it settles at 1.5" then its still perfect for my needs.

When planning your lift, I guess you have to ask yourself what is worse. Front rake or bro lean?
