Another tip. You don't have drill all the way through the rivet with the bigger drill bit offered. And don't do what I did, I thought I was being smart and cutting a cross into the rivet once the head was ground flat. All that does is make the drill bit wall all over the place.

As I am sure you figured out, the cross cut in the rivet head is for using a chisel to cut the head off. That must have a been a bitch drill, once you cut it.

From past experience, I have found a simple method - cutoff wheel to cut the head as flush as possible, flap disk to flush the head with the surrounding bracket, a u-joint press (or similar) to push the rivet out.

Combined with appropriate language, of course!

@ARCHIVE right now I have the HH with the EL096R Dakars and stock shackles. I want to upgrade to the 3.6" shackle and I'm just curious if it'll affect ride height at all. I'd imagine if it did it'd be pretty negligible.

edit: reason for wanting to upgrade is because my drivers side shackle is tweaked. Plus I'm about to do a rear shock relocate and want the poly bushings so it droops out easier.

Curious if anyone with revised hangers (Sept 2018+) has needed to trim the tailpipe

I had ~1/2” so I ended up trimming anyways to get it out of the way

I just got mine installed with Dakar HD and 3.6" shackles. Had to cut off the tail pipe to make installation easier. The tailpipe was in the way of the 2 bottom rivets. Mine is the newer version that I just got from another member.

I ordered my hangers about two or three weeks ago. Trying to plan in my head how I want to tackle the rivets. I don’t have many tools myself. I can borrow an angle grinder and solid corded drill. Plasma or ball joint presses probably not.

How difficult is it to remove the bed on a 3rd gen?

For a ball joint press, you can rent one for free from an auto parts store. You essentially buy the tool, and have 90 days to return it for a full refund.

Fair point. Im guessing removing the bed is a PITA? just have seen a few folks recommend it and am curious what that entails

I haven’t removed one personally but it doesn’t seem too bad. Remove the bed bolts, undo wiring harness to lights and stuff, and undo gas filler neck. I’m sure it’ll make it a fair bit easier but not sure if it’s worth it imo.

I wouldnt pull the bed, I thought there was plenty of room once you drop the spare tire (stock exhaust might get in the way too a bit). Just make sure you have sharp drill bits, that made the biggest difference for me. I orderd two sets but I think a third set would come in handy, they work good but seemed to dull quick...also use a lube.

It's not a pain, very minimal work, and you can raise it a foot or so. Put tape on back of cab. I have a video on YouTube about 2nd gen

I don't know the actual answers to your questions but I went from an ATO shackle flip to the Hammer Hangers so I'll speak from actual experience.

I have noticed zero loss of usable travel, I can still do all the things I want to and could do before.

I don't worry about dropping my leaf pack on a rock now, with the flip kit the leaf spring was the lowest thing at the rear of my truck, now a massive chunk of steel protects it, if the rear of my truck drops off obstacles I can giggle about using them as hammers instead of worrying about damaging a leaf pack.

They feel way better at high speed, the shackle flip was an improvement over stock but the hammer hangers were another step up.

There was an issue with the original design and Dakars but that has been corrected and I have no reason to not recommend these now.

I edited my post. I was typing up a series of questions last night as I didn’t think I would read too many pages of the post. After about 15 pages in, I think I had most of my answers.

Apparently I didn’t erase my draft before typing the new post though. :anonymous: I’ll figure these computer things out one day.

At the end of the day you're wheeling an IFS rig, this is a compromise that you won't notice. If you are really trying to crawl things you would have a buggy. Send it.
