Yes, these posts are great. If you're not chasing #EAF or #overland points, why put all the weight further back and add even more for a bumper/swingout? I have a full size, matching OEM rim with a matching LT265/75R16 KO2 under the bed with no modifications.

once you get past 33s the tire won't fit. With a 295/70R17 the tire hit both shackles

Stock spare tire mount requires modifications even with 285/75 R16’s. Beyond the modification, I tore up the tread of a spare that rubbed on my old leaf springs. PITA to keep the spare in the bed all the time.

I've heard of the outboard shock relocation for the 1st gens, maybe it's time for outboard leaf spring mounts... :anonymous:

Well crap. My new tires don't fit. LT255/75R17 KO2 (32"). It's mostly the fact that my Hidden Hitch forces the tire too close to the rear axle and all of the crap welded/bolted to the rear of it (e-brake cable hanger/et al) and fully loaded/ flexing out will make it rub on the tire. I guess it's time to start looking at swing-out bumpers and reinforcing/boxing the frame.

Another nagative to under the bed is the tire effects your departure angle. I don't like swingouts either. I've already tweaked my frame and it's boxed without a swingout.

Mine is mounted standing up against the bulkhead of the bed with two ratchet straps. Not the easiest to access should I need it but sacrafices must be made.

This is my plan for now, but I have a short bed, so space is more of a premium...

Only if you are running a really wide spare, or don’t have a factory receiver hitch. I’ve scrubbed my hitch many times, but never the spare. The hitch can take a fair bit of abuse, and in a way protects the spare.

Here's mine.. very, very ghetto. Built it from an adjustable hitch receiver and a piece of square pipe. Kept it from rattling by attaching it to my tailgate. Pretty sketchy but it held from Alaska to Virginia lol.
