My 2016 has done this and it seems to mostly be with a cold engine but have had happen randomly in parking lots and trails while braking. Not sure what the issue is but it is a small surge.

My truck is parked in a 45*F garage and I let it warm up for at least 2 minutes before I try and drive, this should be more than adequate.

This has happened twice to me. First one had the most jerk after cold start. Second was after driving it 5 miles and then parked but that jerk was a lot less.

Sounds like it is engaging and lurching abruptly because of the higher RPMs during a cold start and when running AC.

NOT!!! what if your wife or young teen driver drives your truck and hops in thinking it will behave like any other vehicle?? Also -imagine its winter and there is ice on the pavement? I actually had mine lunge forward/or backward 6-8 when there was ice on my drive. I was ready for this surge after I got used to it. My son-in-law who is a FAA certified A&P mechanic got in my truck one day (first time he drove it) . He got out out and said -"whats wrong with your truck and why the erratic idle.
SOO --not "problem solved" -- till the dealer did the TSB on it. It worked like a charm on mine.
This surge can be damned dangerous in certain situations as in that time when SIL was parking my truck next to 2 3 million dollar jet planes
GET THE TSB done if your truck has the "surge" -nuff said!

Toyota HAS a TSB to deal with the surge. IT WORKS!

HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AC -- My area rep form Toyota proved it while testing mine (plus 3 other new Tacomas they pulled out of inventory to work with this issue)
I would like to believe this testing he did resulted in the TSB which hit the Toyota Service dept's about 8-10 months later -- but I don't know for sure.

You wouldn't happen to know what the TSB# is by any chance?

I think I found it actually, T-SB-0125-18? It, unfortunately, only applies to 2016-2017 vehicles. according to the link imgur file from third gen stickies.

You got it -- good searching -- Sorry I did not remember the number.
The engine will also do the same -to a lesser extent when warmed up --at least mine did it . As I said my truck was doing it real bad. The other test trucks -one did it worse and one did it a little worse, and one did not show it at all. My guess is, there must be some wide tolerances in the items that control idle during steering input.

Okay my 3 week old 19 does this I watch the rpm go from around 600 to 1000 only when I am at a stop and only for the first 10 mins of driving.
