For my part I agree with the standards above required by Toyota. It is a matter of how 'idiot proof' Toyota makes the build process and reliance on the suppliers. Often when trucks/cars have issues they always track back to a faulty supplier issue as in the frame rust. Having said that I noticed all the Tacomas in NC for sale were built in Mexico if they were automatic and the manuals were all from Texas.

Whole bunch of stuff in my garage
I had the opportunity to buy the exact same truck, one from Mexico, one from Texas. I chose Texas. Why? Because I am from Texas (now live in Seattle) and want to keep a bit of "home" with me all the time. If there was not that option, I would not have cared at all, hell I forget my truck was even built in Texas most of the time anyway!

I like being able to support the Texas economy with my purchase. Otherwise I wouldn't care as my GTI was hecho en Mexico and was problem free while I had it.

That is outstanding! All such great planes. The OV-10 has made an awesome comeback and done well. I know the EA-6 is different than the A-6/e but that is finally being retired March this year. And the fastest of the bunch with the F-4. You have to have some awesome tales. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your service. I am only guessing by the jets, but did you get to fly or know Duke Cunningham?

My 2019 was assembled in Mexico. Fit and finish is excellent, just has a couple of minor issues that seem to affect both plants (slight diff whine in between accel/decel, passenger side BSM erratic) but otherwise perfect through the first 2500 miles. Seems put together extremely well.

As mentioned, neither plant manufactures parts; just assembles. Mine is baja built and solid, no problems, and I live in Texas!

I went on a tour of the Texas plant for a manufacturing engineering class a few months ago. The only automated processes I saw was roughly 2/3 of the welds and material handling. Everything else was done by an assembly line of workers that changed positions every two hours. On a side note, every time a worker spotted a quality issue, they pulled a string which triggered some childhood song to play (Mary had a little lamb, the wheels on the bus, etc.) and a supervisor would come over to inspect.

Same build parts, same standards of QC, same warranty, and same company standing behind the product... so what’s the difference as to where final assembly takes place?

My 2018 was assembled in Texas. There is a transmission dip stick to check the fluid?

Last 3 newish cars I've owned had a sealed trans...no dip stick.

Toyota's American & Canadian Production Declines While Mexican Production Rises.

Toyota is building fewer vehicles in the United States and Canada, while its production in Mexico increases. In Mexico, Toyota's production increased by about 48,000 units. All due to the increased production of the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Toyota now builds more Tacoma's in Mexico than it does in its Texas plant.
