It was all PRO's, all manuals, all access cabs and all trucks imported into Canada were built in TX. Some double cabs also.

    Not sure moving forward

Must be a cost savings then. I wonder what wage differential is between plants. Likely substantial for total compensation.

Mine is made in Texas and I'm not super impressed with fit and finish honestly. If these factories want to keep manufacturing in the US they're going to have to up their game.

Mine as well. I would take the same quality offered by the Mexican plant if it would give employment to a fellow tax-payer.

Higher wages, but more automation in TX to offset it.

In MX, lower wages but more hands on labor.

My 2018 TRDOR was built in Mexico. No complaints here.

My 2014 Tundra TRDOR was built in Texas. Also no complaints.

Well as a Canadian I don't have a horse in that particular race. I get the sentiment but my preference would be for the highest quality product available. Texas sounds a lot better than Mexico but with all the bumper misalignments, reports of low tranny/diff fluid, and bolts being under-torqued that perception of American-built quality is sort of going down the drain and fast.

I remember reading various threads on those defects but nothing tracing them to a certain facility?

No, me either but what I mean is Texas should be blowing Mexico out of the water in QC if they want to justify their higher wages.

Ah, I hear ya. A little QA goal competition between plants should be a good thing for the consumer.

Both of my ‘15 DCLB Limited’s were TX trucks.

The Quality Management System (QMS), that Toyota uses should be standard across all of their production facilities. I doubt you’d find any difference between not Tacoma plants.

I sought out TX trucks, for the next time a Chevy/Dodge/Ford owner asks why I didn’t buy “American”, so I can in return ask why didn’t they???

The 3rd gen Tacoma has been selling well.

I would guess running three shifts churning these trucks also has something to do with some misalignment and paint defects.

And the vendors producing parts for this truck are probably going through the same.

My TX 10/15 produced truck has been "flawless", fwiw.

I'm sure corporate would assure us that is true. I'm sure implementation is different between plants.

QMS is a complete process and has to be maintained via regular auditing.

Most QMS audits and done at the loweest level, to ensure that the employees are following a standardized process. If done correctly, you can’t fake it.

I realize this is a 3rd gen thread. But I'll say this. Up to now, my Mexican produced 2nd gen Taco (DCSB, Sport PreRunner, May 2015) has been great. Aside from a squeaky driver's side door seal which I fixed myself...zero issues to report. And that had nothing to do with the assembly of the vehicle or where it was produced.

I'd also like to add that the parts that go into the Tacoma all come from the same sources regardless of the final assembly plant.

And don't confuse a poor design with poor assembly. By no means am I saying the assembly plants can't make the occasional mistake. But, most "issues" that are fairly widespread have little to nothing to do with the actual assembly process, but rather design and engineering...and, from time to time, a parts supplier issue. People constantly mix up build quality with design and engineering quality. The best assembly in the world can't build out a poor design.

Now, by no means am I saying the 3rd gen was/is of poor design and engineering/development. Just saying that these threads always pop up from time to time. There is very little measurable difference in actual assembly quality between Mexican and Texas produced vehicles and zero parts quality difference. So any perceived difference is just that....perceived .

Which essentially could mean here is the process and here is how it's actually done.
