exhaust question

I have a 5 speed 08 four banger. I am running the stock exhaust and when I step on it the exhaust sounds really raspy. I don't dislike it but I would rather a lot deeper of a sound. Does anyone have suggestions of a muffler of catback that would eliminate the rasp and just give me a nice smooth deep sound? Thanks all for any suggestions.

 

i have the dt header and jardine catback and i love it...there is a thread on here with videos of everyones setups

 

anyone else with a suggestions. I do like the Jardine exhaust I am just a little concerned with it being aluminized. Correct me if I am wrong but the stock exhaust is stainless and being in the northern states I would like to stay with stainless. Let me know what you all think.

 

dynomax super turbo muffler is a very popular choice here. Nice sound and some extra HP. Much cheaper than replacing exhaust system, it think it runs for like $50.

 

A cat back exhaust is a waste of money. It is the same thing as replacing the muffler with a better one. You are just paying for new pipes which are the same as stock so it is a waste.

I have a LCE header and a dynomax super turbo. Love it!

I use to have a jardine cat back but it was a bit too loud for me. It does have a nice sound though. Maybe a touch deeper.

The super turbo is slightly louder than stock with better flows
The Jardine is probably in the middle as far as noise goes.

Aluminum doesn't rust.

 

Does anyone remember the Borla stainless catback that was made for the 99-04 2.7's? My cousin had one, and it was quiet, just a touch louder than stock, and wasn't raspy at all. It seemed like a beautifully put together system. I've listened to a lot of the exhaust clips on the newer 2.7s and they all seemer to be louder than what I remember of that old Borla. Obviously its been quite a few years since Ive heard that truck (RIP-frame recall), can someone tell me If I'm correct in saying this, or am I out of my tree? I wish Borla made a catback for my truck!!!!

Aluminum corrodes, aluminized is just a coating and will only buy you another year over galvanized.

 

well not sure about the metal used in the magnaflow, but god i love it, it can be a little lound sometimes but here is my set up magnaflow single in duel out, knn intake, and dt header.

the magnaflow sound good, I think it is a little louder then I am looking for. I want just a nice deep mellow tone. Overall though these suggestions are definitely closer to what i am looking for

 

Has anyone bought an exhaust made for the 4.0 and fit it to a 2.7? Will it work? My guess is no, or else they would just sell for our trucks too...?

and what do you mean an exhaust for the 4.0L?? do you mean the cat back exhuast piping?

if so it will fit the 2.7L (the piping is the same size on 4 & 2.7L) if its and access cab. but there is really no need to buy and after market cat on a new truck just buy the muffler and replace it much cheaper and well you wont waste money.

 

I thought the piping was the same too, but I was wrong. I had to cut about a foot out of my magnaflow cat-back to get it to fit on my 4-banger. I think the flowmaster cat-back allows you to insert or remove this section of piping.

I agree with other posters...the magnaflow is a bit loud for my taste and drones at highway speeds. I would likely just do a muffler next time, now that I have the know-how. By the way...it is stainless.
