Why? There is nothing new in the drivetrain to expect bugs, or do you really think that power seats and LED headlights might be buggy for the first several years :)

When we purchased our 18 TRD Sport all we had to do was show our Costco membership card and the dealer knocked $2,200 off the sticker price. Sweet & easy. YMMV.

OK. I understand. When I went to a bank and a credit union all they had was rates for 'new' and 'used'.

Toyota dealers all started out telling me the finance rate was 4.9% and there was nothing they could do about that. "It comes from Toyota". One dealer actually quoted me 5.7%! This is all before a credit check. I have top credit rating. After I told them I would go thru my credit union for 3.9%, (they were even lower at 1.9% if I wanted 48 months) they had a conference in the sales manager's office (I'm sure they were just talking about their dinner plans that night) And guess what? 'Toyota' agreed to match that rate! Amazing! (<This is sarcasm)

Yep..The year less of depreciation was the biggest factor for me. SETF wouldn't play ball with 15% off in my area for a 18 (on the day I walked in), so it was fiscally in my benefit to take the newer model with 0% financing.

He plans on keeping the vehicle for at least 10 years...i would buy new. I'm not saying power seats and led lights are needed but they are nice to have. It's 2019 already, these features should have already been on the truck or atleast offered as package.

I'm not buying a certified used truck if I'm keeping the vehicle for a long time.

And i said get a 2019 at minimum if you read my post.

Went and drove a 2019 Sport. Pretty nice, definitely seems like a bit less grunt in the bottom end but then again the dealer was in the truck so I wasn’t jumping on it.

Still waiting on a final answer from my insurance company. Since the accident took place 230 miles from home up in Canada and the truck is still up there things are a little more complicated, they had to hire an adjuster. I will be surprised if they don’t total it.

My last two trucks were Tacoma’s (2000/2010). I did test drive a Colorado Z71 yesterday. It was also pretty nice. Don’t hate me. Lol.

Its good that you did the test drive, you just have to adjust your driving style to the 2019 as there is power there but its just higher up in rev's.

Good luck with your truck. I just traded a very clean 2010 Access Cab for a Certified Used 2018 TRD Sport DCSB with 2800 miles on it. I am very happy with it, and yes I am still getting used to it, and I suppose it to me. I stuck with MGM, maybe the less observant among my friends (& wife) don't really even notice. I am happy with the deal I got, though it was not a deep discount, it was the model, style, and a couple extra features I wanted. It was time.

I have had a lot of Toyotas. Decided it was time for a new truck. Did my homework on the new Tacomas. The new Colorado/Canyons are highly recommended so I was thinking about them. But in my internet searching, was having a hard time finding ones optioned the way I like (Loaded). Then I started reading about them having to have their front ends rebuilt (bushings, tie rods, etc) near 60K and a lot of 8sp trans problems. Plus no radar cruise, no moonroofs, need a key to start, single zone Climate control, no emergency braking, and some other things I cant remember. So headed to my local Toyota dealer, drove a limited on a long test drive, as I never 4 wheel, and made them an offer of almost 5K off MSRP and drove it away about 2 hrs later. Sure feels a lot more solid and quiet than my 06. The trans does shift a lot, but big deal. I heard the Canyons do the same. And then fail.

Sounds like you must have been researching something like Consumer Reports where the Colorado/Canyon would be so called highly recommended even though they know the trans will fail.

My brother in law had to replace the trans in his Chevy a little over 60K miles. I was very surprised when he told me this, and his comment was a shrug, and calmly said " That's about what you get out of them."

yeah, I read the reviews and tests on Car and Driver magazine, Consumer Reports, plus a lot of other internet sites. Still bought a Tacoma though! So far, glad I did.

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. My insurance company did write off my 2010 TRD Access cab as a total loss. Still waiting for the final number, I know KBB is $15,800.

I emailed all the local dealers looking for their best price, told them I was buying in a week and best price got the sale.

This was the best offer I got.

2019 Tacoma Sport, V6 Access Cab, Automatic, step tubes, some other minor stuff
    MSRP: $37,887
    Discount: $3678
    Sale Price: $34209+$75 dealer fee

    No trade.

They offered about the same $ discount on a fully loaded $42k 2019 Sport crew cab. My 2000 and 2010 Tacoma’s were both access cab and they worked great for me so I decided to stay with it.

The dealership with the leftover 2018 Sport Crew Cab ($39200 MSRP) offered $3500 off so I got a bigger discount on the 2019. LOL
